To shed some light on things, I went to two vigils tonight.
One was at the 9/11 memorial in my city in which we have a piece of one of the towers. There was a lot of talk and prayer, we joined together as a community. I even talked in front of everyone. It made me feel so welcomed and warm. I did get a lot of hugs and phone numbers. The mayor and a few others spoke first then it was an open floor for people. I didn't know that my city could be so accepting of others. Even though we may have our differences, and I am very active in my city. I'm not the person to normally speaking up in front of people because of my anxiety and shyness. But I'm proud of myself that I did so. I did cry. I didn't take any pictures because there was a lot of people and I didn't know if they wanted their picture taken.
The second one was at one of the colleges in my city. We read poems, prayers, did different native american practices, talked about how we felt and our experiences, and just were generally open. It was raining a little bit but everything was fine. I met the college students whom were ever so nice and welcoming to me. They have many support groups/clubs for the LGBTQ+ community and their allies that I was invited to. Everyone was so nice, and I think that's important to see. We should all join together and learn to accept one another and stop the fighting. Lets not let hate win, let love win. Instead of creating this into a political issue or wondering about being PC or caring about the shooter, learn about the victims and show your support to their friends and families, do something kind, show love. I am heavily involved with Random acts, a non profit and encourage you to check this out! http://www.randomacts.org/news/ra4orlando/
