    And it's far from dying.

These statistics are from this year, for context. Minecraft is only growing and will continue to flourish no matter the stray comments without any backing claiming that it's a dying game

These statistics pertain the views Minecraft videos on Youtube get. So this isn't really an accurate representation of how many people actually still play Minecraft, which compared to a few years ago isn't that much. Another thing to note is that a lot of people who watch Minecraft videos, don't actually play the game itself.

In the past couple years though, Minecraft did grow up a bit. Only thing is that minigame servers, and servers like J&H are still dying and no longer popular like they once were. People pretty much only play on Hypixel now for that kind of stuff.

The Minecraft that people are into nowadays is Vanilla Minecraft Survival with no mods and stuff. I mean, even with regards to those statistics on Youtube, compare the number of views Dream gets compared to JerryVsHarry Build Battle videos. I've always, and pretty much only liked Minecraft for this reason (Survival gameplay), and it's the only kind of Minecraft I still play from time to time, so I'm pretty glad that minigame servers and stuff are outdated now lol

Every game is a dying game, and eventually Minecraft will die too. I'm not sure why people are always so stern on refuting any claims that it's a dying game. I mean, when it comes to this server, modded Minecraft and that kind of stuff, I don't think there's much debate on that stuff being dead. Regular Minecraft is the only kind of Minecraft that's still growing/not dying as fast.

Holyshit stop talking about minecraft dying, it's doing just fine and you're all going of personal opinion rather then daily statistics trying to look all smart and educated on the topic a dead game has 0 players minecraft has at least more than 0 players so it's fine

This. When minecraft was kinda in it's 'low' point, I quit too, but still watched minecraft youtubers (mostly from hermitcraft). And currently the youtubers on the Dream SMP are getting crazy views and it's trending every time something eventful happens. But do all those viewers play minecraft? No way.

This makes sense. I suppose the better term could be that 'Minecraft' as a genre and brand is far from dying, rather than the game itself. Nonetheless, starting last year with SMPLive I feel that there has been a spark within the community and playerbase. This, as well as Mojang showing no signs of stopping with updates, and with the ever increasing popularity the game has on platforms such as Twitch and Youtube, tells me that it's going to be around here for a long, long time. You have guys like TommyInnit and Dream who are growing exponentially and taking over their respective platforms, for example.

Also, I didn't mean to come off as harsh in my initial post. I found that twitter message on my timeline and felt like it could be an interesting thing to convey here, being that I've been around long enough to notice the disdain some have towards the game and opinions on if it's a dying brand

^ and most "new" players are not on java edition.

this graph is from official Minecraft Wiki and it stops in 2015. you can see bedrock already outsold java edition in 2013. xbox in 2014.
now imagine the graph in 2020. all the kids are on XBOX/PS/WIN10 (aka bedrock) & PE now. The bedrock edition also has cross-platform play

they might watch Dream speedrun the java edition, but they don't play it
