    BUILD TEAM RETURNS
    After years of builds being done by unorganized builders, we finally have a Build Team again!
    So far we've worked together to bring you the most recent Factions and KitPvP maps, and nearly all large-scale builds in the future will be done by the build team. However, we're in need of more members, so we're opening tryouts to anybody who'd like to apply.
    Unlike applying for staff, there's no format or thread making, instead, we want to see what you can build. So, how do you apply?

    TRYOUTS
    Step 1) Join ijahbuild.serveminecraft.net
    Step 2) Claim 2 plots
    Step 3) Use 1 to build terrain of any type and show what you can do with worldedit, voxel sniper, and manual work to build natural-looking terrain. Use the other to build structures/buildings, showing off your ability in that field as well.
    Step 4) Send me a message on discord (Heatdude#4656) saying you've finished your plots. I'll get back to you after I've had time to look at your plots.

    RULES
    All the rules from the J&H server still apply on this server. We reserve the right to remove you from trials and the server for any reason.
    You must build alone. While showing your plot to other players is allowed, you are not to build with other players. We are interested in YOUR ability.

    RESULTS
    We'll be closing public trials in 2-3 weeks depending on how long people need, so take your time. Only at the end of this period will we announce who's been accepted, so there's no rush to finish before the deadline.
    Remember, not everybody will make it. If you don't, we might hold trials again in the future so it won't be your only chance ever.
    If you are accepted, you will remain whitelisted on the build server after trials are over. You won't get a special rank on the J&H server, as we have no interest in bringing back the [Builder] rank.

    For closing remarks, I'm really excited to be leading this project. I've wanted the server to have an organized build team for years now, and even when we had one before many years ago it never truly grew to be anything more than individuals with special tags. Hopefully, we can do something bigger and better this time.

    I can understand the necessity of this years ago, but is this really necessary now? lol
    New builds aren't exactly in high demand for the server other than factions and kit resets, so much so that me and @Bruhtrash used to handle most the builds just by ourselves back in 2018- early 2019

    Well I or other builders could take care of the builds on our own, but that would likely result in low quality builds like we had when only one or two builders were making everything. Sure, this would have been better years and years ago, but it's always better late than never. I'm hoping this can both lighten the load on the individual as well as bring much higher quality builds to the server.

    I mean, map3 is regarded as the "best" Kit map and that was built by around 1 or 2 people, _Kreon_ and to an extent @Andy
    Same with Map2, just Kyle and i think willy made that IIRC
    Also not sure if this is a direct insult at our build quality lol, but a lot of people to this day like what we built (except the skyblock spawn understandably)
    I'm not saying I have any problem with the current builds but I don't think increasing the size of the team will actually help their quality become better.

    It's good to have small organized groups working on each build, but when people who generally aren't that good at building come along then tension will rise between builders and end up tearing apart a team. (Was very visible by the last build "team" with teal kyle and jake lol)

    Then there's prison in that reset rotation as well. In addition, a Skyblock reset is in the works.

    Isn't this the entire reason of a tryout system in the first place? To make sure that everyone accepted is a good builder and can work well with others?


    And so far, having worked on that factions map (making the spawn portion) I'd argue that working in teams like this is MUCH better. I can't tell you how many times I had two or three other people making small suggestions around the spawn that actually made the build much better. The way I prefer building is in a group so that my own tangent ideas can easily be looked over if they need to be tweaked somehow.

    In November of 2019 I created a small build group from the staff team to work on projects for the server.
    These projects have resulted in the creation of our new hub, about 20 parkour maps, a few new OITC maps, 3 kitpvp maps, a new prison map, and multiple factions builds.
    Almost all of those builds have been done by a small handful of players. Most of which actually had little to no build experience prior to participating in this project, just the interest in helping.

    Now, rather than only allow current staff to be a part of the build group, we've migrated the build server to its own server, given it structure and decided to open this to the public so that quality builders are given a chance to participate in the development of the server without having to be staff as a requirement.

    Every 2 weeks we have a server of some kind being reset. We'd like to re-use as little as possible and keep the builds that we're doing fresh. We'd also like to encourage builders that may, in their own interest, work on projects that may incentivize additions/updates/resets to segments of the server.

    Needed or not is really not important. No, this isn't needed. But we're still going to welcome the community involvement and offer the opportunity.

    This won't be 20 people working on 1 project btw. Project management for that would be awful. Having more people applying to or be in the team does not indicate that there will be more people on a single build. But it may certainly allow us to have more time dedicated to builds and may result in higher quality, polished results.

    tldr; We do stuff, it's okay if you don't like it or think it's needed. There will be people that appreciate it :)

    I’ll admit I don’t completely hate the idea of working on a build team again, especially if it’s being overseen by someone else. J&H were notoriously bad at planning and communicating deadlines, and Willy was like the dad that went to get milk 10 years ago and never came back.

    As anyone who was ever in a Teal or Echo faction can tell you, working with me can be annoying because I pay extremely close attention to detail. This alone led to some substantial creative differences between me and the other builders (cough gamerizz cough) because they would only build on mega scale and completely overlook ground-level details- which, when you’re building a spawn or map where players would be running around as opposed to flying in creative, you need to be operating on that scale.

    My current biggest problem is burnout, I don’t have the willpower to pour 14 hours a day into a build like I did 4 years ago. That and I kind of like being invested in the stuff I build, not really just cranking out a whole ass map that gets replaced every month.

    I wouldn’t be at all opposed to being something like a finalizer, someone who goes around the map adding details, easter eggs, patching holes, and testing for exploits- if there’s a block out of place I’ll sure as hell find it. But I’m not gonna sit here and expect concessions for a has-been builder :p

    I think a new aspect of bringing in more people is so we don't have to spend all of our free time every single day working on a new map, even with something coming out every couple of weeks. (Having built the current factions spawn, I can say that I didn't spend 14 hours a day working on it all the while having several changes being made at the block by block level). Essentially, not every person will be assigned to the same project started and it may be set up to where people are given different jobs based on what their skills are in building. This style somewhat happened in the factions map based on what everyone was comfortable doing. If you look into the factions notes, it says what each person was responsible for creating in the build. And when one person was finished with their job, they helped critique and add to the other parts that were still being built. Now, I wasn't here when the previous build team was still in place (I was one of the people who joined to help xd) so I don't really have any other experience to compare this with, but it seems like a good system to me.
