So some people in my life have been very vocal about saying all lives matter is blatantly racist and dodging the fact black lives matter.

I'm curious what everyone else thinks, is it a bad thing? Why? Why not? Is it racist?

I want to see who thinks saying all lives matter is wrong and who thinks it's right

all lives matter makes me so upset. by saying this people are trying to take the importance away of black lives matter for literally no reason.
when people say black lives matter, they're not saying black lives over every other life, they're just saying that their life matters. all lives can't matter until black lives matter. and the same goes for so many other races.

they're trying to make every race equal, saying "all lives matter" accounts for every race and not just the black race. like you said,
the saying goes for all races. black people aren't the only ones getting treated unfairly.

see but you can't do that because every race isn't equal. if you can say with confidence that black and white people are equal in america i'm sorry, there's something wrong with you.

of course black lives aren't the only ones going through unfair treatment but, the movement is trying to spread light to the black lives that were unfairly killed to get justice and change because of that. since so many black lives have been taken by a lot of racist cops, all we want is change. we want justice for those who were killed unfairly, we want to see a change in the police system so that less people will get killed/punished just because of the color of their skin. it's really not a hard concept to understand. most of the people who say 'all lives matter' are white. white people don't go through nearly as much oppression compared to other races. they just want a reason to say their life matters. it does but, saying all lives takes away the importance behind all the other movements.

of course all lives matter, of all races or backgrounds or ages or anything. but I personally disagree with supporting the "all lives matter" movement. unfortunately I live in an area with a lot of uneducated, racist, homophobic people (southern Indiana). they say things like all lives matter, and my town was recently on tmz for something an idiot did in the Walmart parking lot (including a rebel flag and a noose). most people, in my life, who say all lives matter mean it in a very racist way. they only say it to justify being racist (the n-word is very popular here, and like 97% of people are white). sure, some people can justify saying it and they don't mean to be racist. but here, most people who say it to be racist and to make fun of recent events. there is a neighborhood in my town which is a bit run-down and there's a lot of crime, and it's mostly filled with white drug addicts- yet the reputation it has has gotten its nickname: "n----r hill" because of the stereotype that black and poc communities are "ghetto". perfect example of how people are here.

My point of view is this, if you're saying all lives matter as a way of being inclusive and saying all lives should be equal and we need to work on that, then its not in any way racist. Saying it because you feel like your race isn't getting recognition means you're racist or saying it because you think people that are not white aren't oppressed then that's once again racist.

It just really depends on context. If you jump to the conclusion that someone is racist for saying it then that makes you a bad person. Context is a huge factor in a lot of equality movements.

Personally I disagree with any form or racism, sexism, homophobia or any other forms of discrimination from age to religion and everything in between. In no way am I supporting people who don't agree with racism etc but I think jumping to the conclusion that they're racist if the message can be interpreted in different ways then that's wrong.

All lives should matter equally. That's how it should be. In today's society that's not the case. We need to help make sure those who need the most help are taken care of and treated better. We need to make their voices heard.

Almost everyone agrees with the principle that all lives matter, but the reason saying "All Lives Matter" upsets people is because it undermines the message and purpose of Black Lives Matter. Like imagine there's a playground with snakes and mice. The snakes keep killing the mice. Then the onlookers say "Omg mice lives matter." But then other onlookers say, "no, ALL Animal lives matter." Basically, my point is, fuck mice.

All lives SHOULD matter, but they don't and that's the problem. We are currently living in a world where people are literally arguing over who has the most struggle in life. People shouting "all lives matter" in protest to black lives matter are literally fighting over a reason why people should consider them oppressed. It just amazes me how people want their voices to be heard so bad that they are trying to overpower a group of people's struggle in which they have been enduring for over a century. Black lives matter isn't an argument, it is innocent lives begging to finally receive the equality they deserve and if you believe that our society views them as equal you are sadly mistaken. We have definitely made progress, but progress isn't enough. We need change immediately, all lives can't matter until black lives matter. People need to swallow their pride and stop trying to silence a movement that is speaking up for people who have been silent for far too long.

I just think it's dumb to hate on AllLivesMatter.
I think you're just creating a barrier for later that won't come down easily, how I see it now is that you're wrong if you don't say BlackLivesMatter and that you will face consequences for doing so. But if all lives matter then why can't you say that? Why can't you say both? It seems to me like they're forcing you into one way and won't allow you now or later to say anything else but BLM. People are being attacked, or hunted online, bullied and are having their job taken away by a mass of protesters who attack the persons employer. All for saying ALM, but is that the right way? To support the cause you like by putting fear into others? I don't think so, I think that's very nazi to do.

If you truly believe that all lives matter, no matter the race or the color of your skin. Then you shouldn't get angry about the fact that people say ALM, you should instead try to explain that you feel like people of color still face racism instead of going on a angry chase after them. I prefer saying ALM because I feel like it includes all of us, mankind as a whole and not just any certain group. Sure some groups suffer from different problems than others, but it's not difficult to understand that if you separate everything and put everyone in groups that you will start to dislike each other. A very basic example of that which doesn't include any race or skin color is cities, at least here people will hate on another city because ''It's not their city''.
I don't like any other city as much as my own, so when speaking about other cities I lean more towards negativity and mocking jokes about that city than if I was to speak about the city that I grew up in. Same go for zip codes, people will fight others because their zip code is different.

Plus I feel like saying (any race)LM overlooks the basic issue that we all suffer from problems in this world.
That's why I prefer ALM over all the other ones.
I don't deny that what they're protesting against isn't a real issue, but I don't think the way they're handling certain aspects of it is the right way.

no. it's not okay. this so called 'movement' will never be valid because it was created as a counter movement to black lives matter. obviously .. 'all lives' DO matter but the movement was created to completely dismiss the oppression that black people have been facing since the start of fucking time. white people have never received oppression for the colour of their skin. EVER. they've always been seen as the superior and dominant race and that shit's not okay. pick up a fucking history book. and it's also a movement created by white people ... which makes it even more invalid and wrong.

Lols - every post here is saying the exact same thing. Nobody here believes white lives are more significant than black lives, as American society stands, it's simply important the more suppressed voices are heard.
