On October 1, 2017, a mass shooting occurred at the Route 91 Harvest country music festival. During a closing performance by singer Jason Aldean, a shooter fired into the crowd from a 32nd-floor balcony of the Mandalay Bay hotel, located to the southeast of the Las Vegas Village outdoor concert venue.

The shooter was identified as Stephen Paddock, 64, of Mesquite, Nevada, who was killed by police at the scene. With more than 50 fatalities and 200 injuries, it is the deadliest mass shooting in US history.

This is truly saddening to hear that someone crazy out there would do such a thing. My condolences to the lives that were lost and their families. If any of you guys are around the Las Vegas area, PLEASE stay safe and keep in touch with anyone you know who lives near there!! <3

Apparently (not sure if this is true, can someone confirm?) the shooter's partner told people they were going to die 45 minutes before the shooting.

This is truly a fucked up shooting. He had 10 guns in his room, most of which are banned or hard to obtain guns. This shows that the US has a huge black market problem for guns. We need to focus on shutting down this black market, and prevent people from bypassing the system to obtain guns for their own ends.

Wow, that's sad. Why would anyone come to this type of low? Especially during a time meant for fun? Is it because their lives are so shitty that they feel they need to take the lives of others? There is a special place in the depths of hell for people like this guy.

I'll send my prayers to the ones who were affected by this horrible event. :(

Because suicidal maniacs can get guns.

and I thought this was going to be a joke at first: "I don't understand why this still happens when I send my prayers all the time"

I find it sick that one person can just think "let's open fire on these people which have done me exactly nothing wrong" yeah these people need to seek help but instead of doing that they think that and buys guns like nobody cares and starts blowing shots at people for no real reason.

What I meant with the whole "starts blowing shots at people for no reason" as in the paper it says:
"He’s just a guy who lived in a house in Mesquite, drove down and gambled in Las Vegas." Which makes me think he is just a normal guy needed help but got none from what I can see. This can happen if you aren't helping in needs in extreme cases but that's just purely my opinion on this, I pray for these people, wishing their lost loved once a great rest and the injured to become healthy once again and not remember this whole attack.

I may add that the whole gun topic: It's not USA's fault blame the people which sell them illegally honestly because the county can't find the guns in the first place, therefore, it's "illegal" guns which people may buy each day or week what do we know.

I don't understand why people shoot at these concerts like it doesn't make sense.
I don't get why shooting to some people is a good idea.

I think its safe to say at this point, no one in america needs an automatic sniper rifle, capable of doing this much damage. Really hope something changes, but I know it won't.

As Harry already mentioned though these guns were bought legally. Same thing happend in Orlando, when a person who was being watched by the FBI was able to purchase firearms legally, and went and shot up at night club. Sorry but this is the USA's fault for trusting people with automatic firearms that have the sole purpose of killing people.

Also injury count is up to over 500 now, with 58 deaths. Not sure if you want to update that.

Actually not that many people use guns to defend themselves

"Of the 29,618,300 violent crimes committed between 2007 and 2011, 0.79% of victims (235,700) protected themselves with a threat of use or use of a firearm, the least-employed protective behavior. [16] In 2010 there were 230 "justifiable homicides" in which a private citizen used a firearm to kill a felon, compared to 8,275 criminal gun homicides (or, 36 criminal homicides for every "justifiable homicide"). [17] Of the 84,495,500 property crimes committed between 2007 and 2011, 0.12% of victims (103,000) protected themselves with a threat of use or use of a firearm. [16]"

Also who uses an automatic sniper rifle to defend themselves? Why do people need automatic sniper rifles, or any automatic military grade gun, in a civilian atmosphere. They arent used for hunting, they aren't used for defense, the only reason for them is to kill mass amounts of people. That is what they are made for. And clearly as we can see from this Vegas attack, and the Orlando shooting, they do a pretty good job of killing dozens of innocent people. There is no argument to keep these weapons.

I understand if you want a pistol, or a shotgun to go hunting. But again a military grade, automatic sniper rifle? Who needs that?

*And 4 of the top 10 deadliest school shootings were in the US.

    Really...?

Sure, some people may want small guns, such as pistols, for personal defense.

But there is absolutely no reason that any civilian, and I mean any civilian, would ever need a killing machine such as a machine gun. I'm not saying guns are inherently wrong or bad in totality. Our country and even the modern world as we know it would not even exist without the creation of guns. But large-scale weapons, such as machine guns, should be limited to the battle field - where they belong.

I honestly think you are missing the point here. This is a time of mass mourning, not an oppurtunity for you to promote your "second amendment right" or the utility of guns - the very things that made this massacre possible.

I don't agree with automatics or snipers being used. By the Hughes Amendment of 1986, all automatic and semi automatic rifles made after 1986 are banned from purchase. This means that lower tech guns of the type are still purchasable, and the amount is dwindling as well. I do support either a ban or heavy red tape on these kinds of guns.

I am not for the use of automatic killing machines publicly. There is already heavy regulation on them, but more needs to be done. However, many people want an outright ban on guns or heavy regulation for every type of gun, like the assault rifle sees.

The only reason why I am arguing to protect the second amendment here, is because people think that this massacre is a reason to just ban guns. That's not a smart move. It is extremely easy to get guns illegally, and imagine defending yourself with a knife against an armed criminal. I don't want the misconception that having guns legally means that the country will fall into a cesspool of bullets and blood, in fact, one could argue it is the other way around.

I do mourn this event, a family member was injured in Vegas.
