Lately, a lot of people have been hating on the changes on CQC in Minecraft for 1.9. The new sword mechanics seems to draw out a lot of hate, and is even deemed "uncompetitive." The new mechanics are actually a nice, refreshing update for the game. Waiting for Criticals: The new update implemented a feature for swords, where the longer you wait after hitting, the more damage it does. This feature is a good concept, as it has worked in other games. Take Halo for example. I've tested out the Energy Sword dueling mechanics with Overshields for Spartans. When you slash the Energy Sword at your enemy, you'll have to time it right to coincide it to when the enemy slashes at you, so both swords can cancel out a lot of damage, and therefore, neutralizing the enemy's shields at the cost of yours though, then it is whoever can lunge at the other first, while avoiding the enemy's lunge, or it will result in both Spartans dying. Swinging too early leads to the enemy having the upper hand, as the sword has to reposition, and takes longer to do so when your Spartan flinches after taking a hit from the enemy's sword. Swinging too late results in having your shields taken out before you can score a hit. This is a perfect example that the MC's new sword mechanics are taking a turn to a more competitive side, as jitter-clicking is basically where the person who can land more hits wins. Axe Bypassing: There is no cooldown for the axe, and that is one thing I agree is flawed in 1.9. the axe can either have a cooldown implemented also (at a lesser extent) or have the damage per hit lowered. Jitter-clicking does NOT take skill: The new sword mechanics neutralize jitter-clicking. Jitter-clicking has no skill to it. Any newcomer can win by jitter-clicking and a bit of luck. The new sword mechanics gives MC a considerable skill gap, which is good, and encourages players to devise new tactics to overpower others in sword combat.
I literally can't hit that like button enough. I completly agree with you and I must say it's nice to see a positive thread about 1.9 one in a while.
YAAASSSS! Finally.. someone who understands this.. I've said this so many times on different threads.. and almost everyone disagreed with me... I honestly can't wait for the new PvP Mechanics.. it'll have a different approach and a whole new way of having fun!
There is a cooldown mechanic for axes and other tools, unless you're talking about when the axe temporarily disables shield use. Edit: Everything in MC 1.9 has cooldown
I want to avoid 1.9 at all costs, but this thread makes it more interesting... I broke my finger trying to like the thread.
Respectfully going to disagree. Being an OITC player, axes won't help, and almost every kill would take forever because of the hit cooldown.
You can try this on 1.9 snapshot pvp servers. They are actually out there and you can go try them if you have the correct version. I personally had a blast pvping with the new mechanics. Don't judge something before you try it!
I both like and hate the mechanics, but like much more than hate. I also LOVE THE DUAL WEILDING WITHOUT MODS!
Oh yes, a positive thread about 1.9. I honestly love this update as it makes combat fun and strategic. Also the new gliding wings feature is pretty kickass as well. I cant like this thread enough
I know other people have said this, but this is one of the first pro-1.9 threads I've seen. Usually, it's someone saying "it's terrible." Or " pvp is now impossible." I'm glad they're changing the PvP mechanics. Jitter-clicking causes too many problems. Now jitter-clicking makes you a more vulnerable target, which is how it should be with the new skill and strategy based system.
There's one thing I disagree with here. I respect what you said, but you mentioned jitter clicking taking no skill. That's absolute baloney. How can a newcomer start jitter clicking and doing well? Someone who has never jittered before can't start jittering effectively off the bat. It takes a great amount of time to master jitter clicking. Even being able to click is not enough, since you have to keep your aim stable while doing it. I understand people dislike the "unfairness" of jitter clicking, but to continue to say it takes no skill is nonsense. (If it took no skill, you should be able to do it easy if you are new to it, which is most likely not the case)
