I like memes as much as the next guy, okay? Memes are my life. But some things shouldn't be joked about, and one of them is 9/11. Our country was in terror that day, and people sit back and act like it was some type of joke. As someone who almost lost their mom in 9/11, (She was on a lower floor, and had to jump for safety), I really don't like people walking around and making fun of it. I think it's something that just needed to be said, thanks for reading.
no one should make fun of the tragic day of 9/11/2001 people died in the twin towers and the pentagon my aunt had a friend that died in the pentagon it was tragic ik but if you ever visit The Big Apple (its what new yorkers call New York City) visit manhattan and the 9/11 memorial the pray for the ones who died if you laugh about this you are gonna have a bad time in nyc and youll be a disgrace to all americans
Alright, this isn't a joke thread. Keep it to yourself. Joke posts will be removed and possibly warned.
this is like, 6 days late, but i totally agree. 9/11 isn't funny in the slightest, and it honestly baffles me how someone can think that over 2,000 people dying is funny???? i have dealt with so many people making jokes about 9/11, and it just disgusts me. death is not a funny thing, its horrible, and 9/11 fucked with so many families, and this whole nation. prayers to all the families affected by 9/11, and rip to all the innocent lives taken on that tragic day.
People have to understand that dark humor is very popular on the Internet (I myself do like dark humor a bit), so people will always joke about anything they can, and it's best just to ignore it, because there's nothing we can do to actually get rid of it. Also, as these events get older, more people will joke about them, because personal connections to them become less common, and they become comfortable about those jokes. Take a look at the Black Death, or the Crusades, people joke a lot about them now (ex: DEUS VULT!), and almost everyone is okay with it, so we have to realize as time passes on, events like 9/11 won't be as sympathized as much anymore.
I try to avoid these threads but this comment, oh boy. Are you seriously comparing The Crusades and the Black Death to 9/11? The Crusades and the black death happend just shy of a thousand years ago, of course people will joke about it. 9/11 is not even 20 years past, lots of people are still effected by 9/11, hardly any one, if any, are effected by the other two events. To say or even imply that people should not be offended by 9/11 jokes is insensitive at any reasonable level. I don't mind dark humor, but it has a time and place. 9/11 jokes on or around 9/11 are not the time.
A point towards Crusades and Black Death. FAR FAR FAR more people died in those events, but still, 9/11 shouldn't be joked about.
I agree with what you say, It angers me to see people Joking about 9/11, a LOT of people died that day. I however didn't know anyone who was there on that day, but It's appalling to see that people on the Internet like to joke about these type of things, They think since they are hidden behind a computer screen They have every right to joke about sad and tragic events, when really, they are Sad and pathetic trolls who are too much of a Coward to Mention a joke like that around real people. It's the same thing about People who make Cyberbullying videos and other things on youtube, It's Wrong and Childish. Sadly it's the internet and there's nothing we can really do about it. :/
I am not directly comparing either of them to 9/11, but rather, I was proving a statement that as a tragic event goes further in the past, people lose personal connections to it, and more people will joke about it.
I'm just gonna drop this article here: https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/arts-and-health/200806/humor-the-human-gift-coping-and-survival Humor is a coping device for tragic events, and many people use dark humor to help come to terms. I find it really immature and short-sighted that basically everyone in this thread is going, "DON'T JOKE ABOUT 9/11 BECAUSE PEOPLE DIED SO WE MUST NOT JOKE ABOUT THAT!!!". I do agree, however, that sometimes it's too soon to make these jokes. Give-or-take 1 week grace period after an attack. Also, I find it incredibly shallow that people are getting all worked up over a date, because we had our only direct attack on that day. I get it, right, terrible thing. But if it was so important that we need to cover our eyes and close our minds, then why isn't it a national holiday. Go ahead, tell me, because if we really are supposed to mourn the dead in that event, then why isn't there a national holiday for mourning? It's all so very shallow.
People that make jokes about 9/11 might as well just go join Isis. If they think people dieing is funny then they should just join Isis
Thank for bringing this to light <3 I always wear my star of david necklace and it makes me uncomfortable when people are like, "Oh! YOUR PEOPLE DID 9/11" but then brush it off as a joke.. It hurts because of all the lives lost. So thank you for this c:
i think you're overseeing this i mean, im not saying its right to joke about 9/11, but when i see a 9/11 joke i just cringe and move on. as simple as that. "yeah but death is not funny!" no its not. its not funny. do you get offended everytime someone does a dark joke? i mean... i know it's somewhat different but still
