    Sup peeps

I am really into learning how to play the guitar lately so I would like some opinions on what to play first: Acoustic or Electric guitar.

Some people claim that playing Acoustic first will be easier for me to learn how to actually play the guitar and then buy an electric one
On the other hand people say that it doesn't really matter. The thing that matters is what type of music I want to play, whether is rock or classic stuff

In my point of view, I would really really like to learn the electric one first because I'm crazy for electric guitar solos and it's something really unique. However, I already have an acoustic guitar because my brother used to play it. It might be useful.

    So, what are your thoughts?

I play both and I started on an acoustic and I found it much harder than electric.

Acoustic guitars are much bulkier and make it a little more difficult but honestly, I would suggest trying out an electric and then an acoustic guitar and see which fits you better.

Electric guitars are easier to play, and if you don't use any distortion it just sounds like an acoustic.

Only con I see is that you need an amp, can't just take it out on the street and start playing

If I were making the decision, I would learn the electric guitar.
But it's 100% your choice to make, don't just choose one side because someone told you to. Go with what you think is best.

personally i learned the acoustic guitar first and then went to the electric but whatever is the best for you is what matters.
since you already have an acoustic, i would try that first and see how it works out. and if that works out, then go looking for an electric guitar. and it depends on what kind of guitar you want. if you'd like suggestions on what kind to get, i can help you out with that. i really like les pauls (super expensive) fenders, and epiphones.

Electrics are easier to play because the strings are thinner, so if the only argument for choosing acoustic is that it is supposedly easier to play, then you should definitely go for electric.

I was playing my electric and playing someone else's acoustic. I felt the acoustic felt more genuine and right, so acoustic (Though electric is easier for beginners)

I'd recommend learning on an electric. You can keep that clean sound or turn on the distortion and play a more heavy genre of rock. When I first started I learned on acoustic only because I already had one. Almost a year later I made an investment in a more high-end electric guitar and I can really say it's so much more fun. Another thing to keep in mind is tuning. I would recommend buying an amp with a built in tuner. This is a great feature that some amps have. When it comes down to buying the electric you don't want to spend too much money or too little. I'd recommend watching some YouTube videos on how to buy your first electric guitar. You will learn some good helpful tips when picking one out.

    Electric is waaay better.

Like Jerry and Harry said, the electric is easier to play and you can do a little more with it if you use an amp. (which is recommended because it doesn't sound nice without it, trust me) The con is, is that you spend a little more money on it through buying it's essentials like an amp, a strap for if you want to play whilst standing up, and other things like spare strings.

Accoustic is an ok type to play, and you spend less money on it, but sometimes it can sound horrible and you have a better chance of spending more time shaking it because you've dropped your pick in the sound hole, than you do learning and playing.

I'd say go with accoustic. Accoustic is a bit harder to play than electric, but once you get the hang of controlling your pic/fingers to specific strings and not all over the place, it can sound really good. Accoustic is also much better for recording, because you would put a condenser microphone to it, which uses XLR cables. XLR cables, unlike 1/4" cables(these, used for amplifiers and low-grade speakers), cancel out something known as "electric sound", or the feint buzz of electric you hear when playing instruments such as an electric piano, or an electric guitar. Electric sound is terrible for recording, and is almost impossible to get out if you aren't using some kind of XLR cable, or any cable with reverse polarity.

But Electric does have it's perks. It's easier to play, and easier to mic up, which means easier to record. The only bad side though, it that electric guitars use 1/4" cables, which doesn't nullify the electric sound. Electric sound is alright for live performances, but terrible for recording.

The decision is yours, though. I hope my information helped you push torwards a new height.

    Thanks for your opinions everyone!

But do you have any suggestions for what guitar to buy (either electric or acoustic). I will most likely start with an electric tho c:

Get Acoustic! For beginning its great to start out with an acoustic. If you learn how to perfection it, it sound amazing. But it rlly does downed your style. Personally I would go for acoustic for starting.

I'd say learn the harder one first.. so Acoustic. It's like learning to drive almost.. learn how to drive a Manual car, you'll do amazing with an automatic. Plus I like Acoustics better because they sound better.. even though I stopped playing after my brother smashed mine.. but eh.

    Go with Acoustic though c:

I've played both I say electric is easier to play less bulky, strings are thinner, but I prefer to start out learning on the more difficult thing as you can do to the easier side, and progress a lot faster. So if you really wanna shred on an electric I would start acoustic and learn the nooks and crannys of a guitar then go to electric and play around and have a lot of fun on both which ever floats your boat. Though normally acoustics go for a really cheap price for starter guitars around $120 - $170.

I know I'm a little bit late, but I came across this and felt posting was necessary hehe..

I've played guitar for 4+ years now, both electric and acoustic, and though electric is easier to play I recommend that you learn the acoustic first. Everyone will go though the stages of, like, tearing skin, learning to get comfortable with shapes, learning to play faster and with different techniques/styles, etc. If you learn it on the acoustic first, it's a bit of a steep learning curve but it'll be most beneficial in the long run.

As for an acoustic, you can get a beginners one (nylon strings with no cutaway- it's what I started on) for about $200. It'll help you learn at least the basics until you have to start playing with different tunings and on higher strings. Maybe even with capos.

If you're thinking of buying a more expensive one, I currently use a Fender (bought with steel strings, a cutaway, pick board and a built in amp/tuner). That was about $1.2k altogether with the case, and it is honestly worth it! :D

Have fun bby, hope this helped! <3
