I agree with you, I do welding and I am pretty scared of inhaling the fumes and smoke. Even to the point that where if I do it outside I will still have an air fan blowing my direction just to feel extra sure about it.

You can buy a small, cheap air ventilators on a boom arm for soldering purpose. I've used it before when I would still do soldering at times and it works good enough to the point where you don't poison yourself and die in 30 years from black lungs. I don't know if you've ever had a boom arm for a mic, but it's the same and works reliably without getting in the way or becoming annoying.

 

yeah i plan to invest in tools fans and ventilators when i get a job after graduation, just that my apartment right now isn’t ideal (fire alarm directly above my table, the only window isn't even next to the table), so i'd rather ask one of my friends to help with any soldering if i ever need it
plus i'm going into my final year soon on top of an internship, if i manage my time right i should have just enough to learn how to solder; so for now going to friends and paying them back is more optimal than possibly triggering a fire alarm and having to pay $900-1000 for a false alarm
