thx for the recommendations! slightly unrelated but that laowhy video reminded me of this... did you ever watch the documentary Tie Xi Qu: West of the Tracks? if not, i would highly suggest you give it a look, i watched some of it (it's 10 hours long lol) and it shows the struggle of industrial workers in China. really amazing, heartbreaking stuff

Very cool documentary about freedom and speed, has very interesting characters.
When I found it I thought I wouldn't sit through it all, but ended up watching it twice that week.

carts of darkness is so dang good. if you like that sort of documentary that shows how average free people have an incredible story to tell, i highly suggest you watch the documentary i'll link below, which gave me similar vibes as the shopping cart documentary. in retrospect, i should have put this in the OP but i just forgot about it

Al though nice, it wasn't very good or enjoyable. Mainly because they introduce this character, let him speak a little and then move on to the next. Would have been more entertaining if they stuck with someone for longer and got more involved with them for a while instead of listening to the short story and leaving it there.
A few really get you going with their short introduction, but are cut of too early.
