Lately I've been really getting into reading books, and I realized books are really underrated. A couple days ago I asked for book suggestions on my friend chat and got a couple suggestions of books to buy, I ended up with ordering: Permanent Record (suggested by Logistical) Flowers for algernon (suggested by @Darkstorm77) The Secret History (suggested by Llamaa) I am excited to read those, but when it comes to books I'm a fast reader and finish them really quick, lol. So I made this thread so people can suggest books that I can read, anything would be cool and also feel free to discuss about books too!
I don't read books, but I had a favourite book that I would always read younger and it's called The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It was me and my mom's favourite. Sypnosis: Mary Lennox is a neglected and unloved 10-year-old girl whose parents die in a Cholera epidemic and sent overseas to England to live with her Uncle Craven. She befriends her maid Martha Sowerby and she tells her about a secret garden, and so she goes to discover it. There's a lot more that I can't say w/o spoilers but it's full of family love, dark and hidden truth why the secret garden is locked away and it's such a nice book. No idea if you like these genres but it's something I'd constantly read when I was 6
The Belgariad and Malloreon series by David Eddings They're an easy read with a good story line. I've read them a couple of times. Always feels like going home, if that makes any sense.
This sounds really interesting tbh, I'mma keep this in my mind. Books with stories different stories like this is always amazing, also about how many pages are there in this book? Literally anything, I am trying to expand my knowledge and improving my English, but I really love books with interesting and different stories, classics are also something that doesn't miss. Yeah, I understand what you mean, this also sounds interesting, is the books long like Harry Potter/Hobbit or is it a bit shorter? Because I really want to start reading a book serie if you know what I mean because series are always interesting and once you start watching/reading a serie, you always wanna see more and can't stop watching/reading sometimes, is this book something that once you start reading, you never take your eyes away from it or is it something you read from part/chapter to part/chapter and time to time?
Not sure what kind of books you're into, and I'm not sure if these books were only good because I was young, but Ranger's Apprentice 1-12 and the prequel series Brotherband Chronicles 1-7 were all really good, you should check them out.
about to get done with Stoner by John Williams, a huge classic that is still pretty underappreciated in the academic world. Williams tells a relatable story in such a beautiful way and it reminds us that even the most ordinary of people have a fascinating story to tell. must read.
They're a lot shorter than Harry Potter but it captivates you. I could lose myself in them to the point I lose track of time. They're that good.
I recommend you a novel called "The Catcher in the Rye". This book that I read was for school 2 years back. It's a well known book of literature and I think it used to be banned in USA for a period of time as well. Some people don't like the book, others do, such as myself. Even though I was forced to read this book and write essays about it, it's the only book I've ever enjoyed reading for school as well as my favourite novel ever. I recommend you this book as it's also a literature classic.
Have you read Animal Farm or any George Orwell? It was a book that they read in other classes when I was in high school. One of my kids had to read it for lit class and I ended up helping them so I read it. It's a really good read.
this is really cool because I've recently started to read a little more, too! I've so far read one biographical book about a favorite sports player of mine, and am currently in the middle of reading a Star Wars novel which I'm absolutely in love with. My plans for reading are to indulge in expanded material based off current genres, shows, or areas of interest that I'm already into. This, of course, includes Star Wars, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and I actually plan on reading Elton John's autobiography once I'm done with this current book series. Specifically, here are the titles that I'm currently planning on reading or have already started: -Doc (Todd Zolecki, have read) -Star Wars: Thrawn (Timothy Zahn, this is the one I'm currently reading. If you're a fan of SW then this would be a fantastic read, it's about a character named Thrawn who is, in my opinion, one of the most interesting character within the Empire era) -Star Wars: Thrawn: Alliances (Timothy Zahn, second installment) -Star Wars: Thrawn: Treason (Timothy Zahn, third and final installment) -Avatar, The Last Airbender: The Rise of Kyoshi (F.C Yee) -Avatar, The Last Airbender: The Shadow of Kyoshi (F.C Yee) -Me (Elton John autobiography) In the past, many years ago, I also read the Harry Potter and Hunger Games series. Though it's been a long time since then, I do remember liking them at the time which I indulged in them, so they're apart of my recommended list, as well.
No I haven't read any of their books. I may read their books one day. Thanks for the suggestion. I just wished schools would find better books to read like George Orwell.
It is very good. I warn you though, it has to do with concentration camps and what happened there. It broke my heart but at the same time I was amazed with his courage.
