[Skyblock] Tips on how to avoid being scammed!

I've seen a lot of scam reports in the report section. A lot of these cases are similar to each other.​

If you want to avoid being scammed you should follow these tips.​

- Do not trade by hand
Most scammers will ask you to drop the item and they will just leave. This can be avoided by creating a ChestShop. If you don't know how ChestShop works you can google it for now, there are a lot of tutorials on the internet on how to use Chestshop. (There might be a tutorial coming soon on the forum.)

- Do not teleport to someone with a full inventory.
Before teleporting to someone empty your inventory first and teleport to the person to check if he/she wants to teleport kill you. Teleporting to someone is always a great risk and you should be careful about it. If you want to trade with someone and you think the person is save I would recommend you to bring only the item you want to trade. If you simply do not trust anyone ask the person who you want to trade with to teleport to you.

- NEVER trust a backwards sign.
If you see a backwards sign and you can not see the other side DO NOT click on it. Even if the person says they are 'free' diamonds you should never click on them. You might lose a lot of money.

- Do not trust any commands people tell you to use.
For example if someone says "GUYS DO /PAY WHATTHEHAI -1000 YOU WILL GET 1000 MONEY!" do not trust it! Using that command won't get you 1000 money, instead it will take 1000 money and give it to that person (In this case it is me, WhatTheHai)

- Always make screenshots if you trade with someone.
It's always nice to have some extra evidence if you do get scammed. Making screenshots will greatly improve the chance of getting the scammer banned.

- If some offers you something that sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
If someone offers you 64 diamonds for 20$ it is probably a scam.

Got several things to add.

Firstly, on what amount is a great amount of money.

20k, is your starting amount on Skyblock. This amount is valuable for starting players, as it is able to buy a variety of merchandise, and could be a great start for a skyblock island. Things that you can buy listed below:

100 stacks of stone in total with 200k.
Hop around player shops, and get a stack of each farming item. Most notably carrots, because they sell for alot at the shop, compared to the other farm items. Sugar cane is also easy to harvest.

Anyways, here is a recommended list of objects to buy off shop. ALWAYS STAND IN FRONT OF THE SHOP SIGN, AND HOLD NOTHING WHILE YOU"RE BUYING OBJECTS, IN CASE OF MISCLICKING ANOTHER SHOP SIGN OR THE PLUGIN GLITCHES OUT. It happens.

20 stacks of stone
32 pieces of charcoal, for torches
96 OAK Logs. OAK WOOD IS CHEAPER. :/
3 saplings of each tree type
One stack of each farm item, preferably off player shops.
32 glowstone, for decor
2 stacks of wool, for decor
2 stacks of clay, for decor.

With that, you're set. Those objects are the main things you'd want to buy off /spawn shop.

Things that you SHOULD NOT buy off spawn shop.

Dirt. It's overpriced. Unless you think you've got 1.5mil and can bother buying it off shop because you're too scared/lazy to go to another player's shop and buy way cheaper dirt, you'd lose alot by buying dirt off it.

Diamonds. Another item which you can get for relatively half price of shop. Prices of diamonds range from 350-700 now, if appropriate, but sadly there is also a big quantity of scammers.

Iron, with iron farms common in skyblock now, you may get them 1 for 50, or even cheaper. Shop sells one for 300, and it is totally not worth it.

Quick list of objects being underpriced to be scams.

1. Diamonds, being under $500, may be scams.
2. Mob Cages being Auctioned, 90% end up as scams. Drop parties at /spawn are OK. A mob spawner from an honest merchant would most likely be ranged at a high price of 20000 - 45000.
3. Mob Eggs, that spawn mobs. Those objects should range from 200-1000, if bought from an honest merchant.

Quick list of overprice/ripoffs:

1. Cobblestone sold for 250 a stack, and shop is cheaper.
2. Oak Wooden Planks sold for 250 x 64, shop is cheaper.
3. Glowstone for 100x1, shop is cheaper.
4. Blaze rods being 1000 per. Seriously?

Yes. That 4th rule is really annoying when someone says "Don't take my money /pay -10000 :( It takes all my money :(((" Gawd .-.

Some of these are really obvious, whilst others you come to learn...
Thankfully not to me! #NotScammed.
I pay too much attention to the chat for any scamming to happen! ;3
One thing though, if you want an enchanted thing, either get me to do it ;3 OR pay for the object you want enchanting, cause chances are they might steal it. If you pay for the looting sword or fortune pic, 99% chance they'll give it to you.
Also, an enchanted fortune 3 pick should cost 1-3k. Don't pay 8k for it. That is a scam

i have empty iventory most of the time, but i always have lots of xp

 

if there're someone say "I WILL DROP MOB SPAWNERS AT SPAWN IF YOU PAY ME 10000 :D"
and i want to buy 1 from him , i paid him and he goes offline, what should i do?

Make a report about it in the report Abuse. Make sure you use the format and provide screenshots

 

If you go to a chest shop is might say S 3Soo instead of S 3500 this will mean you sell your stuff for 300 instead of 3500

 

After sending a request hold shift most of the time it will keep you from falling. Also don't buy something when it's the only thing there the shop maker is waiting with lava. Just some things I have learned over my period of time on the server

Personally i think recording your screen is better than taking screenshots, bescause you can see what happens. Just turn your recorder on BEFORE you accept a random tpa with a EMPTY inventory

 

Some people don't have screen recorders though. Like me
