New Survival Spawn

Hi J&H, the players of peaceful factions have agreed a new spawn would be nice since many new players get confused and the current spawn has seen better days. I work as a contracted builder on survival and several people agreed I should make a new spawn. I have created a rough idea of how it might look in a creative flatgrass world.

There are no signs because new players would be given a book (similar to the one you spawn with in the server hub) and a rule book may be obtained by typing /rules or something of the like. The store is above ground and doubles as a social center and there are now crafting benches, an enchantment table and an ender chest that players can access. The sidewalks are dotted with dispensers for leaving items in (similar to the way the hopper lights are used currently) and I even kept the tables and chairs.

I like it, good job teal. I think you did a good job on the shop house, it suits it very well. Only concern is that it might not look as appealing to players with the default texture pack, but to me it's a good combination of patterns and blocks. We should definitely use this spawn. I think it looks much more welcoming and less confusing for new players.

The shop is the way it is so players don't rely too heavily on its resources. You actually have to play survival to obtain certain items, the store is only there to get you started with the basics or to provide mass amounts of basic materials like I use :P

 

I love the idea of making a new spawn area for peaceful survival. To be completely honest, the current one we have pales in comparison to some of the monumental spawns the server has sported in past iterations of J&H survival.

Because some may question Teal's intentions as builder, I suggest that @MrDeathWilliam or someone else in the upper staff work with Teal to monitor and assist with certain design decisions, and in areas like the shop still have complete control of what is bought and sold.

Or, as an alternative, have the new spawn be an anonymous popularity competition where people vote on designs submitted without knowing who made each one to eliminate biases. I acknowledge that setting something like this up would be difficult, but worthwhile and a fun way to incorporate the community into the development of the server.

Either way, the current spawn in peaceful survival does not in any way reflect the capabilities of the community and the J&H building staff, and therefore should be changed to something that inspires new players to join and consistently play in our server, thus improving our community overall. (Can I get an award for longest sentence ever right there? xD )

The current spawn is good but I like this one better.

I have been playing survival for nearly 10 months now and I've done about all there is to do. All I'm left with now is building things for people like @Yoboy987 and @ShowerCurtain. I build to provide aesthetic relief from the miscellany of dirt and cobblestone structures scattered throughout the land, I build because I want people to know that there is more to survival than that. This is my way of giving back to the server that gave me many good times. And whether the admins choose my design or choose a competition, I'm fine with either, but as a community let's take something awesome and make it amazing.
