Try putting books in with different messages such as "hi" and then "bye". Something along those lines. Then reply with your result.
Greetings. I personally don't find this as an issue? If you put two of the exact same books into a hopper they will form one. Since it is creative you should be able to middle click it... Also, if you set up the hopper to go into a chest I am pretty sure it will not combine.
#LateReply here, but this is probably just part of the version you are using. They did say 1.8 is the most stable version to run Minecraft while on IJAH.
