There are boy scouts and girl scouts for a reason, it's pretty stupid in my opinion. Why'd they do it in the first place?

If it's cause girl scouts is all girly shit like cookies or whatever then just rename it to like "Scouts" or something and let anyone join yeah ??

What's the point? Is BSA running out of money/funding/scouts?

In my country scouts are boys and girls together and I think it's better. It's just "Scouts". It does seem kind of stupid to put girls in Boy Scouts because of the name, but I don't think there's anything wrong with the actual thing.

I heard girl scouts just do shitty things with cookies but idk. I would want more if I was a girl...

What bothers you guys so much about girls anyway? They're not that scary. Only a bit scary.

I don't have a problem with it, its been that way in NZ for ages. Not every girl suits Girl Scouts (or Girl Guides here), so why shouldn't they have the opportunity to join (Boy) Scouts.

But imo it's a two way street - shouldn't boys have the opportunity to join Girl Guides / Scouts if they want to?

As an Eagle Scout, I don't really agree or disagree but I guess I'm fine with it.

BSA programs are much more intense than anything you'll find in the Girl Scouts. Plus, the BSA has had a division called the Venture Scouts since 2001 which is co-ed. In other words, there have been girls involved with the BSA since 2001. This new policy allows for girls to join everything.

The Venturers did it nicely, and this is how I expect the Boy Scouts to do it. It's sort of like the military. Everyone is expected to perform and participate at a high level, despite gender. Steps are taken (camping tents, showers, etc.) to where inappropriate activities won't happen.

My ex was a pretty hardcore camper like myself and she was in the Girl Scouts. In her own words, the Girl Scouts are the biggest "organized pussies" in America (she said that before BLM was a thing jokes for days). She wished that the Girl Scouts would be more like... wait for it... the Boy Scouts.

    Overall, I don't really care.

That's what Venture Scouts are for, they allow both boys and girls. What is bullshit, is how the Boy Scouts allow girls, yet the Girl Scouts don't allow boys.

The whole co-ed part of scouting has been brought up since homosexual boys were allowed in the BSA. I have been in scouts since the first grade and only had heard of these ideas in recent years. They created Explorer Scouts in the 70s and 80s and after that Venturing Crews. These were co-ed scout "troops" letting boys and girls participate in scouting activities like the National and World Jamborees. I personally think you can only be a boy to join the Boy Scouts. Its in the name. These groups were created along with Girl Scouts to set a line between the 4 that are available to women and men after obtaining the rank of Eagle like myself. You are no longer a boy scout after the age of 18. But in Venturing you can go until you are 21. This is my two sense on the subject..

A few months ago I went to the National Jamboree. On the service day all the scouts and scouters in attendance completed over 150,000 service hours from the 36,000 scouts that were there including me. They will never run out of funds or scouts.

Don't really see any problem with this besides continuing to have a separate Girl Scouts but I expect that may change in a few years. Maybe it would work better if instead of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, there were two groups segregated on how much effort they would be willing to put into it? I.e. 1 for those going hardcore and 1 for those just interested in the sociability/community. Meetups/National Jamboree etc. could still be together.

After looking briefly at the article it doesn't seem like the BSA troops will be co-ed. It just says that they are going to allow girls to join cub scouts, a group for younger kids, and then also offer them the ability to obtain the eagle scout rank. However the "Cub Scout Dens" will be single-gender so only boys in one group and only girls in the other. I'm not sure if I agree or disagree with this honestly, but please note I just looked at the article briefly and could have missed something.
