Looks great, although I couldn't help but think that it may be better to go for a GTX 1070 (more future-proofing). If you had an extra $50, it could really help out; https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tdZtYr
Except that the GTX 1070 is overkill for 1080p and is 150 euros more expensive here. The RX 580 was my first choice GPU but that one is on high demand due to cryptominers which means high prices and hardly available. The GTX 1060 will suits my needs perfectly by running any game ultra settings, 1080p on 60fps
By the way, I have the GTX 1060 3GB myself for my home PC, and it's actually a really good choice for 1080p gaming, but I did find that the 3GB of VRAM was too little in some games for Ultra graphics, so you definitely made the right choice going for the 6GB version. The build sure does sound like it's gonna be a great one, and I look forward to hearing about the performance with that Ryzen CPU.
Yeah I'm really excited to see how that Ryzen chip is going to perform. I deliberately chose the 1600 instead of the 1400 because I got told 1600 is better for futureproofing. That being said I should get able to use this CPU for at least 3 years before it's starting to behind to newer chips.
And since my build also has the 16GB RAM and HDD included my first upgrade later will probably be the GPU and/or monitor. Really makes me think about getting a 1440p monitor now while I'm already at it
I already had this 23,8" 1080p Dell monitor in mind whose design I absolutely adore, but there is basically the same monitor available but has a 25" 1440p panel and is 100 euros more expensive
I'd suggest sticking to 1080p for now, as that GTX 1060 will definitely be able to power 1440p, but not at a definite 60fps on ultra settings, especially on AAA games.
As for the Ryzen 5 1600, with 6 cores and 12 threads, that even beats the i7 7700k in multi-core performance, and that core/thread count will definitely be useful if you ever want to do some video editing or other relatively heavy productive tasks (or playing games that demand such core/thread counts for better performance).
I agree with you to play on 1080p, it will probably take another 2-4 years before I will upgrade the GPU. 1080p 60fps would be better than 1440p 40fps in my opinion and 1080p will look magnificent compared to my current 720p laptop display nonetheless
Now I realise how stupid it would be to go 1440p: I won't upgrade the GPU for at least a few years, not because I won't be able to, but because I want to fulfill the price of the video card. Surely the GTX 1060 won't be able to handle future games on 1440p which means you'd have to crank down to 720p because 1080p won't work
It's possible but the images will look blurry because 1440/1080 = 1.33 which has decimals. Now 1440/720 = 2 which means 2x2 pixels on a 1440p display would handle 1 pixel from the 720p downscaled resolution.
Seriously, the miners are being a pain. Also, I've been through the same problem when deciding for a GPU (whether to go for one that looks better or is cheaper), it happens to us all lol.
It will fit inside my budget with ease nonetheless, but it stinks that I need to pay extra now. I might as well buy one right now before they get overpriced
I just ordered a MSI GTX 1060 Gaming X 6G, the other card went out of stock a few hours ago. Hopefully the color match with the case will make up the 30 euros
Just a 2 week wait now... Also I think it was a good decision to have bought it early as some other versions of the GTX 1060 has already gone up in price a little
Ah I've been looking into the Masterkeys Pro S for my upcoming setup, but I really want cable routing, which it doesn't have. Looking forward to hopefully playing some games with you in the future mate.
