I would like to thank Davy, Micky, Mike, and Peter for being the driving force behind the reason why I'm a happier person nowadays. They've also made countless other people's lives happier.
Just watching the zany action that goes on the show makes you feel better on a cloudy day and will make you question a lot of things. That, combined with the power of music, you know that The Monkees arent just another "act".
Sure, they may be some "Walmart" brand of The Beatles to you, but in reality they aren't. Sure, they were only intended to be a pretend band for a tv show, but it evolved so much more.
The Monkees fought for power. When their record producers wouldn't let them record with their own instruments, they fought the power and managed to get some people fired and then got their creative freedom. To me, The Monkees were hardcore punks.
and what's sad is the fact that people manage to underestimate them. The Monkees outsold The Beatles and The Rolling Stones combined for gods sake. The Monkees were in the centre of the Laurel Canyon scene. HELL!!! PETER TORK'S HOUSE WAS CONSIDERED TO BE THE WILDEST WITH DRUGS AND SEX!!!!
