I don't believe this would be a bug, as the direction the piston faces all depends on how you place them.

Of course, I could be wrong.

Have you tried to downgrade your minecraft? as it can be causing the issue, but I'm not sure, though try using 1.8 & not higher versions of minecraft, as what @Smg's video evidence shows there's no issue with it.

Could just be a problem with your game. Perhaps the version or mod your running?

    Sorry I am late.
You might be placing them incorrectly, try to fly up, look down and place a piston. It should go up.
If it doesn't, it's probably a problem with your version of minecraft.

Move to 1.8, that's the servers 'good' version.

As stated already, change your version to 1.8 - 1.8.9.
As this is not a Server bug, but is just a version bug.

@snakedoc Are you by any chance near the border of the world? If you are near the border of the creative1 world, then I believe pistons/item frames do not place correctly that well. If you could, please clarify the coords cause I might know your issue.

I have four plots, and it doesn't work on any of them. I really don't know which are how far away from the border.

The border is at X/Z: 29999989 blocks, and the edge of the world is at X/Z: 30000000 blocks. Check where you are on your X/Z axis
