Staff Sensitivity [trigger warning]

Some staff are very lenient towards players, while some are *off-the-charts* strict. It really depends which staff member is handling the situation :p. I wouldn't directly warn anyone for saying "kys", unless the other party isn't okay with it.

I also hate to warn players, but rules is rules. You don't follow them, you end up getting told off either way.

Staff make mistakes. Staff are also human. I hate to overreact, but really, this is true.

 

I totally agree with what OP has said. I've gotten warned once for using the "Gorilla Warfare" copypasta, even when notifying people of swear words within the copypasta.

 

That works but staff could also not warn everytime someone says something that "offends" someone. I think some staff are too quick to assume things and warn players. That is my only issue.

 

I'll have to disagree with you on some of these things. As I've said before, staff are not superiors to the community. We have no larger authority over players. We're not here to force down rules on players. I get the idea of standing strict on rules, but we can't expect to build a better community if we don't have constructive criticism. Debate threads may lead to flame wars, but honestly, as long as a thread about staff proficiency doesn't get out of hand, I would say to welcome the community's vote as well.

I don't think you understood this thread. I'm not mad because i got a warning because I rarely get warnings, I'm mad that I see my friends get them all the time because staff decide to make up their own rules which creates a chaotic server. No amount of reporting is going to change the server as a whole, unless the whole community agrees. Also there is no rule against offending someone, as it is impossible not to offend someone. Harassment is against the rules, not offending someone

 

The rules aren't based on personal judgment, it's based on what IS or what ISN'T allowed. I completely agree with this thread.

 

In my opinion, yes people get wrongly accused. But in some cases the staff weren't there and have to go off what people have said, with evidence. And yes, it isn't harassment but would you really want someone saying things you didn't like repeatedly, especially if it is aimed at you or to make you angry? I am not writing this to start any arguments, I just want to write my view :) . Now the staff are making changes so I'm very thankful they're listening to the community! :)

 

Well if they were wrongly accused, then no action will be taken (especially without proof) I don't think accusations are really an issue on this server, it seems to handle that pretty well

 

This thread has been up for a while, and I think it's finally time I give my opinion on it.

The staff team is great, but they do make mistakes. Like multiple people have said above, warnings should be given out based on rules, not own personal judgement. This is a problem in the community that needs to be fixed. Your job as a staff member isn't to warn whoever is saying bad stuff in chat, your job as a staff member is to help out the community whatever way you can. I'm aware that warning is part of that job, but it's not the only thing.

Still, there are some great staff out there that do follow the line of thinking that I mentioned, warnings should be given out based on the rules. I think the staff team is overhated, just because certain members may excessively warn from time-to-time. That doesn't mean the entire team is terrible.

I know I'm somewhat restating what others have said above, but I felt like expressing my opinion on this. Just my opinion :p

 

If I am honest, the rules should be rewritten and made clear to patch up the loopholes.

Honestly, the rules just need updating. A month or so ago, I got angry because I was getting warning for reasons I didn't even know until I tried to appeal them. Apparently, there are some key words which, when used, no matter the context, will get you a warning and deletion of the post using them. I'm not going to list them here, just so this post doesn't get knocked off, but according to a staff member at the time of the appeal, they are on the area as the "n word" used to describe darker skinned people. And these aren't necessarily super bad words, right. They aren't racial slurs, but they're still put in that category.

See, this is a problem. If you're going to have key words like that where, no matter the context, then give a punishment to the person who said them, please update the rules and LIST these words, so people don't say them in the first place. If I knew not to say those words in the first place, I wouldn't have said them. But because you, the staff, can't bother to update your rules to include additions like this, players like me get punished and, at the end, accept the warning. But we're still left with partial information because of your inability to communicate and update the people you govern. Like, update them, and you won't have that big of a problem. Hell, you could even make stronger arguements against rule breakers with the rule updates. Just please update them, and save everyone the headache.

 

I have mixed thoughts on this subject on one hand staff need to get on the same page on certain rules for example I ask some mods if toggle sneak is allowed and what I mean if it's allowed is the sneak portion which allows u to sneak and be able to stay sneaking withiut hold on the button or if selling in game items is allowed for irl money allowed or not, but on the other hand personal judgment is needed you can't place every single specific rule on the forums that would be an endless list

Serious though- I think it just depends on the mood of the staff member and the reputation of the player and how "sensitive" the staff is. Which is understandable. I don't want to start a flame war or get involved in arguing. This is just my opinion. c:
