Just a small tip for those who don't know:

Use x64 Java on x64 systems.
    Yes. Seems obvious, but...
Your system will most likely download and use x86 Java by default and you will have issues with allocating RAM to anything, including Minecraft.

Go and reinstall Java by downloading x64 version manually and you'll be able to allocate as much memory as you need (1524MB+).

More allocated memory will result in better performance. Such as: rendering distance or chunk loading.

Question, is there a way to improve the performance on a 32 bit PC?

Like Jerry said above, use Optifine if you aren't already. It's a Minecraft mod which improves your Minecraft performance a lot.
If you're already using it, I don't know what else you can do as 32bit Java does not allow you to allocate more memory to the game. (Most of the times).

I use Optifine, and have the 32 bit version, but still get lag.
I did find out that it's all because I don't have enough RAM installed inside of my PC, my video card is just fine.

What kind of lag though? Is it lag spikes when loading chunks, or low FPS?

Lag spikes = Slow CPU or not enough RAM
    Low FPS = Slow GPU

It can also depend on other factors, not only hardware and/or RAM.

    Both.
I'm planning on upgrading my PC soon though, so I would have to survive this. =P

Do you mind posting your specs? (only CPU and GPU is good enough).

Idk the CPU. But the GPU is an AMD sapphire HD6850.
The CPU is probably some Intel. Can't look at it rn because I'm not on my PC.

Mac won't lag. Allocate like 2G RAM to it and don't use texture more than 128x
    60fps is enough lol
Just download iStat Menus to prevent overheat
I once got 110 degrees while playing Minecraft.

    If no one has tried..

Turn off vSync, it usually eats up all your FPS too

If it does then your GPU is weak. The point of VSync is to make the GPU pump out frames at the same refresh rate as your monitor, so there is no tearing.
