Riddle me this

Do you need an internet, or WIFI connection to be on a server? I have a player on Sky Block 2 saying that his wifi disconnects at 9 and he can still be on the server. anyone care to weigh in? He's been at it for about an hour or two now

 

You need wifi and internet connection to retrive any information from the internet. The server is hosted on the internet so yes, you do need a wifi connection.

 

The player must be saying his internet gets worse at 9 because there is not way he could be still on if his internet is down.

 

Of course you need wifi.

 

Contrary to what the others say, that's actually false, if you have 3G on your Phone, you can access MineChat WITHOUT WiFi

 

Ya you get data from your phone thats internet, but not wifi
You can also get ethernet which is a plug in your computer which isnt wifi either
Wifi is wireless connection from a router or modem.

 

Well...I really don't know.

You shouldn't be able to connect to the server without wifi. But i've done it before on both the server and Teamspeak. I didn't connect with wifi, but I stayed on even when my wiki went down. Now, remember, I use a desktop.


So, it's possible to stay connected, even when your wifi gives out. But you can't (re)connect without it.

@Fluttershy's Assassin has witnessed this happen to me on TS before.

This is caused by the router itself giving out, but the ethernet cable, which establishes an internet connection, is plugged into your computer.

 

It doesn't use an ethernet...like I said, Wi-fi.

 

There is no way you could be talking to someone over the internet when you have no internet connection. Either there was a small connection or your ethernet was keeping it up for you.

For the topic of the thread, yes you need internet, it's an online service so being able to connect online requires a connection (for PC anyway). For mobiles, as some have said, you could do it without, for Minechat etc.
