We have recently noticed an uptake in players making creepy advances on other players that are predatory in nature. As such, we have adopted a new policy concerning Predatory behavior. The policy works like this. You will be instantly blacklisted for any of the following offenses: Offering to send sexually explicit messages or media on any medium Soliciting users to send sexually explicit messages or media Any form of blackmail concerning sexually explicit media. Asking for external media (IE snapchat) in any way that insinuates inappropriate behavior Communicating in a way that the staff team deems is a clear and present threat to the community. Any other behavior that is illegal. In this case, law enforcement will be contacted. You are allowed to appeal these bans, but they will be treated with a high level of scrutiny. This server tries to keep chat rules fairly loose and forgiving. However, after multiple incidents and discussion we have decided this is something we absolutely cannot allow, and quite frankly it's long overdue. Yes it's possible it's a joke, but we have no way to discern weather or not someone is joking, and the stakes of someone being victimized is too high to take a gamble. If you are victim please feel free to report it. If you are uncomfortable reporting it feel free to privately message a Mod+ or higher . Do not use inappropriate pictures as evidence. If you have any questions please feel free to ask in a manner you feel comfortable.
does this include memes like "send nudes" when clearly done with a joking intent (or similar instances)?
Any other behavior that is illegal. In this case, law enforcement will be contacted. I've seen this brought up before but I never fully understood the context of it. I get that you call the police, but how is it possible to get in contact with them to track a certain user? Using IP information can only get you so far, and sometimes isn't even in the right county, this is especially true if they live in another country or are using a VPN/Proxy. Just curious the path that's usually took with this.
Law enforcement can get a warrant to get account details from ISP. Ultimately what Law Enforcement does with the information isn't up to us. All we do is forward the information to the law enforcement agency the offending player resides in. We will take these on a case-by-case basis. In general, it is advisable to NOT make these kind of jokes in public chat. They are already warn-able as is.
What happens if a guy and a girl are friends. No intention to do anything bad, and they ask for each others snap or insta.
It depends entirely on the severity. As a general rule, we would ignore DM's, friend chat or party/plot chats. We have in the past taken action on some of clearly severe issues and/or reached out to the targetted player for validation. The ultimate objective is the safety of the players.
that's fair, but I do have one more issue regarding this policy now that I read it again. so, basically, the way I (and other people) interprete this is that staff members can just agree to blacklist someone while marking them as a "threat to the community". there doesn't need to be a reason, you just need to be "seen as a threat" by the admins and you can be blacklisted. please know that my intentions are not to be problematic or nitpicking with this comment, but do you understand the vagueness of the comment and what that one line really means? I find it rather worrying that this vague line is squished among this already vague enough thread, very easy to miss. am I getting the intentions wrong? and if not, im not here to argue with the decision either, but is this what you want for the server?
I agree with Jerome. Could you clarify this a little more? When are people considered a threat to the community?
Well, a few main examples of clear threats to the community are child predators, pedophiles, nonces etc etc, asking young children for nude pictures of themselves. But, this is obvious. I think it starts to get to a point in which people are classed as threats by the way they use chat, i.e again, messaging young kids on the server, asking them to send them pictures of this and that. It already is concerning when people say stuff like "do you have any feet pics I could have?" in chat, etc etc, even if it is 'trolling'. I don't see any enjoyment out of that. I literally ran into someone saying this stuff today in fact, on Creative. But personally, a clear indication of someone being classed as a threat is by trying to manipulate children and miners, pressuring them into things they feel uncomfortable doing, another example being asking them for underage nude pictures. With what Jerome said, I think you're going a bit too far-fetched with the idea of just being blacklisted like that. I do see actual, serious conversations about either they will blacklist someone or not, as it is a pretty big deal when someone is blacklisted. As always, even if they are blacklisted just because 'staff think you're a threat to the community', as with any ban, they're able to appeal it if they so desire.
This release of information (this post) makes things clearer for the community, but literally nothing changes from how we've blacklisted predators in the past. To be completely clear, the context of this whole thread is Predatory Behavior. Staff don't have the right to act against someone they don't like and there is 2 ways for players to fight that kind of false action. The objective is the safety of the community. Illegal activity is going to be acted on, jokingly or not. An example is how we treat DDOS conversations now. They're not welcome on the server and even joking about it results in a ban of some form.
I was hoping stricter rules such as these would come to fruition during my tenure as staff, sadly I had resigned before then but am very glad that these are in place now. A Minecraft server is not the place to send inappropriate pictures
