In two weeks I will begin a network security/ethical hacking course at a school in Birmingham, UK. I will be there for about 3 weeks. I know many of you have been to/live in the UK so I wanted to poll the community for suggestions. Here is some feedback I would like: Birmingham: I will be spending most of my time here. I've done a pile of research and have a pretty good idea of what's to offer. However I still would like suggestions on what good, cheap, places to eat, especially for dinner. Also, what is an effective way of navigating around the city? London: We are taking a day trip to London. I need some good suggestions on restaurants in the shopping district. Also, anything else that would be good to do in London that people don't think about. Oxford: We are also taking a day trip to Oxford. Same feedback as London. Stratford Upon Avon: Same as Oxford. Besides Shakespeare stuff, is there anything that I should check out? Also, Food. On my own trip: Liverpool vs Manchester (See poll) As it stands now, I have an extra Saturday to burn that I am thinking will be spent with a train ride to one of Liverpool or Manchester. I was wondering which city is a better visit? Also food suggestions for both cities please? It should be noted that don't include nightlife in this trip as I have a 9:15 flight out of BHX. FOR ALL UK: I need a list of places for good fish and chips. This sounds silly, but I don't think you understand how much I enjoy fish and chips. Amsterdam Airport: I got a layover in Amsterdam Schiphol airport. Any must do things? Amsterdam proper: There is an off chance that I get stuck in Amsterdam. Any suggestions on what to do? Good hotels? Good food? Anything else I should know: comment here.
Oxford - go to the westgate centre (its pretty easy to find, has lots of shops) and go to the roof and there is a pizza place called pizza pilgrims which is good. Or just go Nando's cuz Nando's is elite. Fish and chips - Literally any place will have fish and chips, my village has like 10000 people and 3 fish and chip places, any village will have at least a couple places to go. Birmingham - Unlucky, birmingham is trash @Shinraaa , but go to nandos if you have nowhere else to go as nandos is high tier british food. Culture you may need to know: - Stay away from roadmen unless you wanna get shanked - Stay out of opp ends - just like ignore gypsies unless u wanna get robbed - the emergancy number is 999, however police here are useless so your better off just staying in like crowded areas and if u go to the shithole parts of birmingham, then be prepared. - In Oxford, there is a banging primark and tk maxx (primark in westgate centre, and tk maxx in clarendon centre). If you are rich, and since you are american you wont have to pay tax or something, go to Bicester Village, its like a 10 minute train from Oxford and has a lot of designer stuff, so if you want Gucci, Armani, Versace or whatever then go to Bicester Village. (If you wanna get bus to bicester village, get a S5, train is to london marylbone and then either 2/3 stops (it might stop at Islip). - dont get shanked by the mandem
Ay, if you're going to Manchester, we should meet up at some time! :D You could also head up to Nottingham or Derby, Derby has a massive mall for shopping sprees and stuff, even if you go there for one thing, there's cafes and takeaways in there. If you're going to London, maybe take a look at the set of Harry Potter? [That's if you like Harry Potter though.] In Manchester there are quite a lot of shops, there is also the biggest trampoline park and ski fun there.
I think when it comes to Liverpool and Manchester it depends. Both cities have a lot of history like the shipping canals, industry, music and sporting success. I've only been into Manchester city centre once before, but I've been in Liverpool's city centre multiple times. Manchester is closer to Birmingham, but I'd recommend maybe visiting the Trafford centre if you go to Manchester. Liverpool, on the other hand I know more about. If you're a photo guy you can walk along the water front, get some really good shots of the Mersey and the Liver Building, or if you're a sports fan, visit Anfield or Goodison Park etc, preferrably Anfield, it's famous for having one of the best footballing atmospheres in the world. (From a biased opinion, Liverpool > Manchester)
Actually, isntead of liverpool or manchester, you could go to Milton Keynes! Milton keynes has - Bletchley park (all about the first computers, with the first computer and the enigma machine) - Indoor skydiving, skiing, snowboarding and a few other things - A large shopping centre - Good stuff
If your coming London make sure not to get stabbed or shot also the fact that ur spending most of ur time in Birmingham honestly I feel sorry for u there accent is awful and u might need to turn to heroine to cope also if u bringing a lot of money and wanna do clothes shopping go Harrods
There seems to be a lot of talk about getting stabbed. Is it really that bad? Is there things I should be aware of outside of the obvious?
I’d honestly say London is just as bad as Chicago rn now I mean I’m just saying this for u to be safe it’s mostly gang violence tho so there should be nothing to worry about
