The Pixel 2 will be supported until 2020, which is great. The iphones always get slowed down though

EDIT: Just for comparison, Samsung phones usually only get around 2 to 4 updates in their lifetime, and Motorola phones update pretty slowly and are quite unreliable.

the headphone jack removal isn't the end lmao, tbh I was excited about the removal of headphone jacks so I don't have to choke on my cord when I am using 'em.

I used wireless headphones anyways, but I like the convenience of a headphone jack because A) Wireless headphones don't last forever and B) You have to carry dongles everywhere with you

Well, carrying dongles with you everywhere is first, annoying because you have to physically plug a headphone jack into your phone, you might forget them on a trip, and secondly, there are USB-C headphones but if you're not getting an HTC U11 they are usually a worse quality than what you might buy for more money.

It's not meant to be, it's not a perk in any way at all.

One of the things that had me the most satisfied was the camera quality. The cameras can record in 4k, and unline all the other iPhones, the front camera also records in 1080p. The only difference between the 8 and 8 plus is the portrait mode is only in 8 plus, and 8 plus is obviously bigger. Besides that, I love the shape of the phone. It's round around the screen, unlike any other, square, iPhone. Really fast, pretty, and I am happy to be using it. Microphone quality is great and the speakers are absolutely amazing. Haven't had a phone with speakers that can go that loud. Sooooo satisfied rn.
There were a few things I was scared of, which were the home button and the camera that comes out the back a bit. The camera can be protected, but if you choose iPhone 8, plus, or X you need a case. It's glass and will easily scratch/break if you drop it. I've been blessed not to be the clumsy mess I usually am rn. Getting a case for it asap. The home button is actually something I like better than the old phone. Less effort, easier, and it feels kinda good.

It is a solid phone indeed but it looks like a 2012 phone. The bezels are so outdated in 2018.

Hence why they made the iPhone X. With a notch.

If I were you, I'd go with the pixel 2 or pixel 2 xl. As of this point in time, it has the best camera on any smartphone and runs extremely well. I have a Galaxy s8 which takes awesome pictures, but it's not as good as the pixel 2. I'm a long time samsung lover and the s8 is truly an awesome phone with the best screen and all that, but if you're willing to risk for a slightly worse screen (the pixel 2 screen isn't bad at all but the s8 screen is better with resolution and all that) to get an awesome camera, go with the pixel 2.

Alright, I have a couple of suggestions for you.
I would go with the iPhone X immediately because you seem to be most interested in Apple.

The iPhone X is the only phone Apple has engineered with the 18:9 aspect ratio. It has a 5.5" OLED display, which fills up that beautiful screen, reaching ridiculous levels of brightness outdoors. Except for that notch. The forsaken notch. It's not that bad though - in my usage, I never really notice it.

The speakers on this build are great too - pretty loud and clear, you won't need to put your hand behind them to make them louder. The glass back allows for Qi-Enabled Wireless Charging, so you can smack this down at an American Starbucks and it'll start charging, and although there still isn't a headphone jack, the hardware is backed up by IP67 Water and Dust Resistance.

The dual cameras on the back are some of the best you can get on a smartphone, ranking 97/100 on DxOMark (a company which rates smartphone cameras), making it joint 2nd with the Huawei Mate 10 Pro and 1 point behind the Google Pixel 2 XL. Lowlight photography is excellent and there is portrait mode enabled on all three cameras - front and back. I have to tell you though, front-facing portrait mode was a big let down, edge detection is terrible. Also, there's a pretty massive camera bump on the back, so you might want a case from Apple to smooth that out, and to protect it - if you shatter the back of this phone and you don't have AppleCare, Apple will charge you $550!

The software is fast and zippy - The processor in this phone is called the A11 Bionic, and it's the fastest on any smartphone. The benchmarks are STUPIDLY powerful, faster than the Intel Core i5 seen in many laptops. This also supports Augmented Reality, Face ID, and Animoji.

Animoji! The worst implication on a phone ever.

Yeah, it's a strange feature, but this shows what Apple can do (in a good way). It uses face mapping to animate an emoji, and if you send this to a person without an iPhone X, they just get a video of you. It's pretty worthless xD

Overall, this is the best Apple has to offer - Amazing cameras, best battery life in an iPhone, Zippy performance, Beautiful design and a great display.
The S8 lineup is all amazing phones - the best of 2017, most would say. It has a 5.8, 6.2 or 6.3-inch display, S8, S8+ and Note 8 respectively. The Note 8 was made for people with massive hands, and the S8 is a bit more manageable.

The body is great - many colours to choose from, with a gorgeous glass back and the best display on a smartphone. However, the speaker on the bottom isn't that great and the fingerprint sensor is in a slightly awkward position. On the S8 I didn't really care but for the Note 8, I had to get used to the 4 other ways you can unlock this phone. Also, the phone is a pretty big fingerprint magnet. This body supports wireless charging and backed up by IP68 Water and Dust resistance - a step above the iPhone X's IP67 water resistance.

The display is the best on a smartphone - great colour reproduction and contrast, and it curves over the sides before the aluminium rails - It's like an S7 edge, but with less bezel and it's a bit taller thanks to its 18:9 aspect ratio. It gets up to 1,200 nits bright - One nit is equivalent to a candle. 1,200 candles, and you get the S8. It's easily viewable outdoors.

The camera on the back is pretty good too. If you only need one camera, go with the S8 or S8+, but if you want two, go for the Note 8. The Note 8 scored 94/100 on DxOMark, three points below the iPhone X, but needless to say, they're still amazing. Dual OIS allows for minimal shakiness when recording video and shutter speed is lightning fast and lowlight photography has very minimal noise.

Battery life is where the S8 and Note 8 fall. The normal S8 has a 3,000mAh battery, normal on a phone and the Note 8 has a 3,300mAh battery, also pretty average. However, you have to then put into thought that the battery is powering the worlds biggest, brightest display. The S8+ wins this category, with a 3,500mAh battery that got me through the day. The S8+ is the one which I would buy because it's got a nice display and a large battery.

However, these are amazing smartphones. Buy them if you can. SIDENOTE: The S9 and S9+ are coming out in early February. Just letting you know.
The Google Pixel 2 XL is great too, but there is no wireless charging. It has a big enough display with great speakers and the camera and software are what Google excels with. I threw this in as an honourable mention.
