Since you don't need it for gaming then...a decent PC is good enough for you
like 8 GB ram, i5 CPU and a decent graphics card
try looking up pc building website, they might help

I recommend an i7/Ryzen 7 for the media editing

The rest doesn't really matter as long it's half decent and won't blow up the pc

I'd recommend looking up a build online and building it yourself, it'll save you a lot of money and it's "fun"

Hard drives: Suggest Western Digital, any Size you'd like.
SSD (Solid State Drive): get something small to just throw your operating system on, a SanDisk 120GB should be alright.

Anything else is optional, if you're going wireless, you're gonna need a Network Card. I don't know many good ones and I use a wired connection, but you can always google it lol.

    agreed
Another thing I forgot to add is RAM..
RAM is expensive af for what you get.. cheatest I think you can get is 8GB. Either 2x4GB or 1x8GB.
I personally like Corsair Vengeance LPX but there's probably cheaper ones than that.

You can go ancient and get 4gb

Also take into consideration the shit you get will or will not work depending on your watts from the power supply. 600w should be plenty in any case

This processor will be great for all your school work and editing needs, it has many cores for that multitasking, including having two Minecraft alts on at the same time.
You are able to play Minecraft, GTA 5, battlefield while recording and finishing school work all at the same time.

Why would a normal user buy such a monster of a CPU!? Don't listen to this guy, that processor costs 900$. It's not what you're looking for and definitely not what you need.

I'd suggest looking at videos and builds from PC building websites.

This is a little overkill, buddy, especially for designing websites and editing media. The price of this CPU is pretty high (1,670 NZD, give or take)

As for your PC, a simple i5 and 8GB of ram will do the trick. GTX cards are mostly used for gaming so be careful for which one you get.

I feel like you guys are oversuggesting a lot of the produts.
    THIS

An i5 will suit you best, and if needed you can always buy an i7 and change it.

Go online to pcpartpicker and look up the build guides. They helped me out when I got into computers. If you see one you like, look at the reviews of its components and pricing.

You should totally get dual Xeons and 2 Titan V graphics cards /s

In all seriousness figure out how much you are willing to spend and go from there. In your case you need a decent CPU (i5, perhaps a 6th Gen i7 if you can find one) but not an amazing gpu (e.g. 1050ti or a last gen card, maybe even a low end AMD card). Get a good amount of RAM (around 16gb).

If you have a low budget perhaps even keep an eye out for second hand parts, but in New Zealand at least the second hand market is very overpriced (people think their hardware is worth more than it is).

It's very hard to suggest a build without knowing the budget. Can you give us at least an estimate to what you're willing to spend?

8GB is the bare minimum memory you should be considering, the days of 4GB are over.

Graphics card is a factor most dependant on how much time you intend to spend playing games, as if you aren't going to play many games you can save quite a bit of money on opting for a lower tier one.

I would recommend an i5 as your intended purpose for your PC seems to be CPU based, or maybe even go for a Xeon for the extra threads (there are other factors that make a Xeon superior but I'm not sure if they'd matter to you).

Power supply choice matters more than most people make it out to be, since if you end up getting a faulty one, that's your whole computer fried. Try to get one from Seasonic, their PSUs tend to be renowned for their stability. The capacity of your power supply will depend on the power needs of the other components in your computer so try to leave this as one of the last components you consider in your build.

Motherboard is similar to the power supply in the sense that you want to pick one after you've decided on your other components, as well as making reliability your #1 priority. Most of the bells and whistles advertised on motherboards don't mean much for the average user, so normally you want to consider stuff at the lower end.

For storage normally you want a medium sized SSD and a large HDD if you can splash the money on it. As long as you don't go too cheap, any SSD should do the job, same applies for HDDs, just ensure the manufacturer and capacities are up to scratch.

For case, you want to consider one with the best airflow path and have it as large as possible. This ensures your computer parts last longer and it makes less noise, but maybe you want something smaller for practicality. I'll need more info on that.

PM me if you want more help/info.

Made up a pretty simple system list for just under $1000 AUD (Incl. Windows): https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/JjvZnn should be pretty good for what you want to do.

Ew, single RAM channel. Decent build asides from that

By the way if you attend to a university there is a chance they provide access to Microsoft Imagine where you can get a free copy of Windows 10 Education. Saves a lot of money

While building your PC, if you can get an SSD, go for it. SSD is a godsend compared to the HDD nowadays. Also, if you want editing as your primary focus, try to focus on the CPU and RAM. I think 8GB of RAM should be able to meet your needs but if you're doing some heavy editing you might want to consider for 16GB, even though I personally don't think it's necessary. Any more than that and you're probably overdoing it. In terms of the general PC, try to find a power supply that's Silver Certified, or you run a greater risk of fucking up your computer (unlikely but you know, safety first).

I'm not too knowledgeable about PC building either so don't take what I say as gospel but it's just the general idea. Last piece of advice is to build the PC yourself. You save a fair amount of money most of the time and it's a good experience. Just make sure not to break anything. Good luck!
