Well, 2017 has come and gone and we had many hopes for 2017, some became true and some were shattered. Many things happened this year. So many, that we might have forgotten some nice, bad, sad or amazing things.

    Pictures of the year

    charlottesville.png

    The wrong direction

It’s the one thing that happened in Virginia on a sunny August day. Far-rights oppose the the removal of a Robert E. Lee statue. It ends up in violent confrontations with counter-demonstrators. A man drove into a crowd of people, kills one woman and injures 19 people.

    grenfell tower.jpeg

The dark shadow over the country

The United Kingdom, the country of moderation, common sense and now: devastation. The Grenfell Tower burned down. The police corrected the amount of fatalities many times until the final number: 79. Police and fire services believe the fire started accidentally in a fridge-freezer on the fourth floor.

    The Twitter king

The Tweets of President Donald Trump move through the year like a temperature chart. He has made use of Twitter in his campaign already – and even more after his inauguration. Here he gives insight into his head. The rough tone changes the politics in the US and the world.

    Black days in Hamburg

On July 7th and 8th the world should look upon Hamburg with admiration – that is what Angela Merkel wanted. But things turned out quite differently. Cars were burned, rocks were thrown, shops were looted. Overchallenged police officers fought with violent protestors. And nobody wants tob e the offender.

    The Times They Are a-Changin‘

2017 was the year of many losses and failures – and elections. Angela Merkel won the German election, but the formation of a government proves to be difficult. And then the „Jamaica-Coalition“ talks collapsed after a deadlock on migration and energy. The „Without-Any-Alternative“-Chancellor passes through stormy weather with her country.

    mossul.jpg

The dead city with the will to live

The battle of Mossul leaves debris and rubble before freedom. It will take many months to get this desired thing named freedom for a city that was under ISIS‘ command for years. But now it’s free. But this is not the city of a new start – rather of revenge. And in the heads of the people grows the hate of tomorrow.

    rakete.jpg

    Peace is being threatened everywhere

Only one of many focuses of this year was the verbal dispute of Trump and Kim Jong-Un. He looks at a rocket test but their rockets don't fly far - "yet".

I wouldn't say it was 90% of the population since there was only 43% turnout. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catalan_independence_referendum,_2017

2017 was certainly an interesting year, but there is certainly room for improvement in 2018 to say the least.

2017 wasn't bad. There were low points, and I feel like my family is going under some sectionalism (like the Civil War) right now, but otherwise it's litty titty.
