I am a catholic and I believe in God (This thread is mostly for Christian and Catholics). I don't believe in the bible as much as I believe in God itself. It was a book written thousands of years ago and has been re-written countless times ever since. We should not be basing our opinions on a book. Yes, your religion is a huge part of your beliefs but we need to use common sense.

I'm tired of people using their religion to support their opinions on political debates. For example, a lot of religious people are against abortions. Do you really think that a sentence coming from a book gives you enough reason to force a female to give birth even if she is unwilling? You automatically think it's okay because your God allows it. This bible was created thousands of years ago. Thousands of years ago is not what the world is like today. I feel like when people do this they just shit on their religion. Your religion is meant to represent peace and love. Protesting for abortions to be illegal is not what peace is all about at all. Religion should be something you go to on Sunday mornings and do at home.

Religious people have said that the government has no right to allow Same-sex marriages to take place in churches because they're not part of the government. So, why do you make absurd opinions based on your religion when it comes to political government debates? Cheating on your couple and watching inappropriate things while doing things with your hands is a sin. Why do you ignore some of your sins and make a big deal about others? Hypocrisy, ignorance, and selfishness at it's finest.

I'm not telling anyone to stop believing in their religion. But, when you're faced with an argument back it up with actual facts and humane reasoning. If you disagree or agree with something because of your beliefs then think to yourself what you're actually doing in that scenario. Think about what your opinion would be if you didn't have a religion - which choice sounds more correct.

    Have a good day (Night),

I agree that religion should not (in most cases) be used in political debates, but I know that will not happen in the near future if it even will happen.

While I don't agree with using religion in an argument for regular political topics, religion is an important topic by itself, and it is a political one.

Yep ofc I agree to this. Current President says, "Separate religion and politics". This is important especially in some diverse country like Indonesia because this prevents friction between Indonesians. But sometimes some part of the majority (hardline muslims in this case) act like assholes and keep bickering with others, especially christians. Mix-up between religion and politics has happened recently in the Jakarta governor election and hell breaks loose in the city. Muslims threatening other muslims to vote a muslim govt candidate, and etc.

I don't meant to make muslims looks bad to others and I hope I don't start a drama, this probably happened only in Indonesia (and I'm also a muslim so why would I make my own religion looks bad to others) :))

My school has a lot of Indonesians who stay in the boarding block, many of which have Indian and Hindu roots. Some of them have seen violence in Indonesia purely because of religion. Considering the state the world is in right now, religion is a part of politics, and there’s nothing we can do to separate it. Religion has always had political roots, and vice versa.

So you call yourself a “Christian” and you say that his book is a phony? Makes sense, I mean I wouldn’t wanna be the one who’s standing in front of God telling him his book is full of fake made up stories, but you do you I guess.

I never said the book was a phony. I believe that most of the stuff written is made up though and translated wrong. This book was passed around for thousands of years and definitely changed the words of God. I wouldn't wanna stand in front of God to tell him that his book is full of fake made up stories but I'd rather hear these stories from him than from a book. People paint God as a perfect person who makes no mistakes. He made a mistake the first time so he flooded the whole entire world. I believe that God can make mistakes and change his mind on things which is why I don't always agree with the fact that he's gonna always hate gays and disagree with abortions in the bible. It wouldn't make sense for even the creator himself to not have biased opinions on things. This is why I'm not too keen on using the bible as a valid source. And by the way, there's a lot of Catholic people who feel this way. Catholic people are different from Christians because most of them don't even read the bible. They just go to pray and love God. And I'm baptized so I'm technically still Catholic and part of the church.

Would you like to join discord tomorrow and discuss this? Because I can give a better grasp with my words of what is curved here. The one thing I’m going to say is the Bible has THOUSANDS of documents, and as long as you go by a trusted source, they aren’t warped, if you’d like you could learn Hebrew like I am currently doing and suggest, to study the Bible more in depth.

I think what you're not understanding is there are two types of Christian people. Some who are really dedicated to the religion and others who aren't. For example, I only got baptized like this April and had to go to church school last year. I already knew some stuff about Jesus and God before going there but I do admit I learned some cool things about the religion. I consider myself a Christian because I believe in God and I do have faith in him and I'm pretty sure that's the whole meaning of being a Christian.

There are two types of people in general, hot or cold. God said he would rather have you against him or comepletely for him running towards his goodness. If you are in between he will spit you out. I would seriously like to talk about this more in depth as it is a very heavy conversation to put into words.

Religion has always been part of political conflicts since the beginning so kinda difficult for people not to include it as an argument
Dont forget that there are uneducated people out there or people with minimum knowledge so their beliefs/religion is all they have left!
These people are also able to vote and voice their opinion! Guess what happens next

    No, because...

I very much agree in most situations religion as itself should be kept out of politics, regardless of what all politicians seem to think. However it's necessary to involve religion in politics if only to help keep it separate. I.e. religion is needed to disprove that it itself is not inherently evil as ISIS seem to believe, rather ISIS use false religious ideologies (which most probably believe to be true) as a front for their extremist actions.

Northern Ireland's politics is practically run by religion. The Irish Republican army (IRA) are considered a catholic group, since they want a United Ireland, over here especially catholics and protestants aren't best friends whatsoever. Two of the biggest political parties, Sinn Fein and the DUP are protestant (mainly Unionist) and Catholic (mainly republican.)
    It's a mess tbh

In the US churches are tax exempt. I believe if religious beliefs are put into politics those institutions should be taxed. Would put a huge dent into the deficit.

I cant believe you. You are so pathetic right now. Discussing religion in politics on a Minecraft based forum? This is too much
