    Adding to Kimonade's post...

You can still be somewhat aggressive and tactful at the same time. Another piece of advice, in game and in the forums find a staff member who has the type of behavior you think is exemplary in a staff member and model that behavior. It's not something that will just help you in game. I know that there are several who I've noticed handle conflict very well. They don't get overly arrogant and they don't start swearing because the players are being rude, toxic etc etc.

Applying for staff is something you have to think about, for you, I think it's better to wait a little longer.

Becoming staff was very helpful for me because it made me change for the better. My English got a lot better and I matured a lot, I have learned a lot from other staff members and I learned several other things too, which I'm grateful for.

For the people who it seemed like a chore, that's fine, that can happen, but I don't feel this way at all. I have ups and downs but I enjoy getting on the server and helping others out.
If you're afraid that this will be the case for you, then you might want to rethink your decision.
I've been in both situations due to the ups and downs. But the ups were really worth it for me.

    Good luck dude.

In ways, the staff team and the server has really changed over the years. I won't get into full details on how it has changed on this thread but however, I do wish you the best of luck if you plan to go for it.

If you truly want to help people/make a difference and you have an interest in it, I'd apply and at least go for it. That's exactly what I did and I surprisingly got accepted and I've loved the experience, support, and just the feeling of being apart of a team.
Being a staff member is a bit stressful at times for example feeling like you have to come on, being hated on / harassed just for doing your job, etc. But you also have to watch what you say/how you act as you now represent the server and you're seen as a role model to some people.

Holding such a position is a huge responsibility and I'm personally honored that I was chosen to become a staff member, so really think about it, decide what you want, understand what you're getting yourself into, and go for it.

Overall I love being a staff member and I think it's worth it if you truly want to help the server as well as progress personally as a person.

In addition to @Left4Lag 's post is that you can help the server by reporting things. Start recording "hackers" etc. Get a feel for doing those things.
