Ok, I think I wanna get this straight because this has been an ongoing idea that is completely FALSE.
I have done some extended research into this and statistics show that minecraft is not dying.

The reasons people think minecraft is dying:

    • A lot of the top youtubers are trying different games these days, this includes some of the pvping community like Danteh whom has just left the game.
    • People leaving. Ok I want to address this one in a bit more detail. Everyone thinks the game is dying based mainly on people leaving, but the people leaving are the people who have been here since the beginning. For example someone who started playing aged 12 when minecraft came out in 2011 would now be 18 in 2017 and most people at this age move on to more important real life situations. Due to lots of people reaching this age they are leaving and lots of people think the game is dying due to this.
Well, statistics show that millions of people are still buying the game and playing it. So just because old players are leaving doesn't mean that the game is dead, it just means newer players are joining the game now.

I did some research and if you look at this link and go down to June 2016:
    http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Timeline_of_events
It shows that minecraft reached 100 million sales.

    Now according to this article:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_games
Minecraft has reached 122 million sales.
That means that Minecraft has gained 22 million sales in 10 months.
If you do the Maths, on average in a month, the game gains 2.2 million sales.
So if you continue this over the next two months it will have reached over 125 million sales in total.
That means that within a year(the year ending in June) Minecraft has increased its total sales by 25% from the original 100 million sales.
That means that 1/5 of the sales for minecraft has come from the past year.
If you think that Minecraft has been out for 6 years now, that means the average sales per year are around 20.8 million.
That means the sales within the past year have already exceeded the yearly average.
So to conclude there is no possible way that minecraft could have died apart from the misconceptions stated above.
Feel free to tell me if any of this logic is wrong.

Firstly its pretty nerdy and sad of you to spend hours on this research just to show how cool/awesome you are "Hey guys look at me minecraft isnt dying and because my opoion matters so much im gonna write it in blue text to show how important i am"
Secondly your logic of games having high sales doesnt mean its alive and not dead that logics dumb for example tetris has proberly more sales then mc (im not gonna check cuz i actually have a life unlike you for researching this) and tetris is dead rn so your logic is flawed

I just want to reply to the tetris argument.
Yes I know Tetris has had more sales than any game but I'm not looking at the total sales but I'm looking at the sales within the last year and how it has increased.
Tetris may have high sales but most of those sales came from the 20th century and parts of the early 21st century.
As I said in the last year it performed very well.

People will always claim games are dead on their own personal experiences with the game, claiming Minecraft is dead without doing any research just shows that you are playing on servers that have lost their player base.

Saying GTA is dead is also just a big show that you have @JustStrafingPvP no idea what you're talking about.
Average there are 35~thousand players playing GTA, with a high of 65 thousand and a low of 27 thousand.
''BUT COMPARED TO THE 70 MILLION SALEs..'' Yes, it's a small number compared to 70 million. But there are still 35,000 people playing this game on a daily average. So is it dead? No.

Same goes for Minecraft, it might appear less popular than it used to be but it's still a big popular growing game.

    Now, onto the topic.

I honestly agree to this. Minecraft used to be extremely popular, it still is, but less. People are moving on. Since I have the brain and heart of a 1st Grader, I won't be quitting anytime soon. But thanks for posting this.

MC is not dieing. Most of the older community is moving out and that makes people believe that the game is dieing, because its golden-age has passed (don't deny that it hasn't passed). In reality, as more older players go, more newer-younger players join. Minecraft isn't going to die anytime soon, especially with how impactful this game has been in the whole gaming industry, including the world itself.

one reason i dont like minecraft as much is coz of the terrible updates over the past year. 1.8 was okay. 1.9 was garbage. 1.10 was worse.

In my opinion, Minecraft is taken by different perspectives and the reason it isn't as welcoming is because of the community. Most players use it for PvP and competition now.

I personally see Minecraft as more of an art than a game, and I am somewhat of a builder rather than a fighter.

If everyone saw the same way, they would most likely enjoy Minecraft much more.

Also, I play GTA V almost every day and I have always seen a lot of people online. GTA is anything but dead/inactive.

Perhaps minecraft isn't dying through player numbers and popular but instead through basic enjoyability \o/

Think about it. Multiplayer is the biggest item people play.
We have games on here that you could not play in single player.
The fact we have chat & games that bend what Minecraft can do, and then noticing how popular they are, proves how Minecraft is dying through basic enjoyability.
Mojang are just adding whatever seems funny now just to try and make single player fun again.

Simple is often better than complicated.

Comparing Minecraft to GTA is whack as hell.

Two entirely different publishers make two vaguely similar games in two entirely different settings catered to two mostly different audiences made in two different years.

There are too many confounding factors to compare. Remember when researching: the more of these factors you account for, the less your research will culminate in a flawed argument.

This is a fair enough argument but I think this still applies to the members who have been here a while.
In terms of numbers dropping on games here and a couple of other servers, that is because old members leave and the servers maybe need more advertising to get newer players on.
I don't believe a drop in numbers on certain minigames shows the loss of enjoyability, just that that particular minigame may not be as popular. There are some minigames that are still popular and thriving so it's not the game thats become boring but the certain minigames.
And yeah mojang are trying to add random new things to make single player more enjoyable again but it isn't really working so far.
To be honest I don't think that the game is losing its enjoyability but more that it has more people that are triggering arguments which makes the game more unplayable.

Tbh I think that you should also look at the pirate accounts, which are of course a ton. You can't really meassure them, but they can make a big difference if you look at players active over the years, but this is just a research flaw you made.
Everyone will remember that time when your friends told you about minecraft and yes minecraft was a basic subject to talk about among gamer friends, but that was around 5 years ago. Its just not really something anyone will talk about today and being excited about new updates. Minecraft is still popular of course, but its just that most people who joined during the "golden age" are almost over 20 years or something and it just loses its attractiveness.
