Although I like the general thought, I do not agree with the vague petition. I struggle to take seriously serious ideas with confusing lines such as, "The amount of homeless people are 105,237." Out of ~8 billion people on Earth? Also, are refers to amount, not people, meaning it grammatically should be "is".

Homelessness has always been a problem and there have been many failed and somewhat successful attempts to stop it. Some people are on the streets for a reason. If they do not want to try to have a better life, they should not (in my opinion) necessarily be given one. They should earn theirs.

In all, what I am trying to say is that I agree that there should be equal opportunity for redemption (or a start) but in specific cases. Many general claims such as these just probably will not gather as much support unless you can address an immediate problem due to the many obstacles we face today.

If anyone has counter-thoughts to mine, please comment as I would love to hear other opinions.

no. thats the letter? you're very fucking stupid if you think that it'll even get past his secretaries lul. you put more effort into convincing people to sign the petition then you put into the actual letter.

correct me if that's not the letter.

I honestly doubt it, he does actually explain the situation and how bad it is, I think if he would actually send a letter he'd write it after 100 people sign it

Grammatical errors aside, the amount of people he was referring to were Australian Homeless people, which makes sense considering this is going to our Prime Minister.

While yes, it is slightly confusing, I don't see it being such a big problem.

I cannot talk for other countries, but I will talk on behalf of this, as I've witnessed Homelessness in Australia.

Often, people do try to get help.
People have animals they try and get food for, they get clothes and blankets, and they try to collect anything they can to try and survive.
This goes for Melbourne and other metropolitan areas.
Homelessness can be the result of abuse of drugs, alcohol, or failure to pay back debt, but often it isn't.

    We don't know their stories.

    There is however a solution.

Unlike America/other countries, we use our taxpayer funds to pay for something known as Centrelink.
Both my parents have been aided by it, as we earn under a certain taxbracket.
There lies a group called NEETs, or Not in Education, Employed, or in Training.
They get welfare off of Centrelink regardless of the fact they don't try to get work.

Without running the risk of making these people homeless, we could potentially reduce their pay packet and set up a "homeless person benefit".
This would allow them to get the basic supplies necessary to start up.

Or even create a program that allows homeless people to get up off their feet and work off their debts (this is less helpful due to the people who can abuse this).

    ///
The reason this is a problem is because a lot of these homeless people live in the city and try to scab money.
Unfortunately, due to the lack of readily available showers, they don't live in very nice conditions.
There's also competition from travellers, who bring along musical instruments, or even pretend to be a statue.
With everything working against them, most homeless people cannot actually just get up off their feet.

They're weak, starving, often don't have the resources to organise a resume to try and find jobs, they don't look presentable (not at any fault of their own), so naturally, the government should be stepping in to at least aid in this, especially families as children need supplies for school.

regardless a single petition isn't going to change anything. i like the idea, but it isn't as simple as to say "give shelters to more homeless people".

you can't just "stop homelessness" lmfao. if that were actually to happen, people would just stop working as they would see they can get free shelters when they're homeless.

i understand its for schoolwork or whatever and if your school actually thinks they're going to make a difference then they're not smart (no offence) lol
