https://minecraft.net/en-us/article/better-together-update-here TL;DR: A new version of the game that lets players play on different platforms together. What is everyone's favorite features? Mine is by far this: Added '/tickingarea' command to create areas that still update when no players are there
I don't play those versions of Minecraft really at all but it's a cool concept when you think about it Only thing is if they're going to add servers for these cross-compatible systems that have Minecraft on them, wouldn't the pc players have more of an advantage in mini-games or such considering it's not that easy to navigate mc on a phone or controller for some Other than that, doesn't really affect me but seems cool.
Depends, if console players get legit aim assist it might not be too bad. But still you can probably stomp someone in PvP very easily if they are on console and you're pc.
I cannot imagine helping someone who plays on the Xbox. Especially when they ask, "how do you do xyz". I have no idea how it works on the Xbox.. nor do I care. I mean we have it on ours but it is seriously bad.
Do note: the current PC version of the game, now dubbed "Minecraft: Java Edition", will NOT be cross-compatible with the console, mobile, and Windows 10 versions of the game. Furthermore, only servers that are official partners of Mojang/Microsoft will be available in the Better Together update. That being said, I have no idea how a server becomes an official partner, what partnership entails (in terms of regulations and restrictions), and whether or not the administration of this server has any intention of becoming an official partner. This direct and open favoring of certain third-party servers on the part of Mojang/Microsoft is rather concerning to me. I don't know where this road will lead, or what might happen to J&H because of it. I get the feeling that Microsoft doesn't like the idea of thousands of privately owned and operated third party servers in their game. I can tell they're trying to move away from that and towards only having a handful of well-established and closely monitored servers under their thumb. It's liability control. Mojang has already had issues in the past with children stealing parent's credit cards and making purchases on servers, only for parents to then come straight to Mojang for a refund instead of the server, thus igniting the EULA enforcement crisis. Microsoft likely doesn't want to deal with such a hassle. I'd like to discuss this as it is a very important issue facing the future of J&H.
They should just increase the required age to be playing Minecraft. You could lie about your age, but people that young wouldn't know that there is a minimum age either (I assume). If they make 5-6 servers big and then keep it under their thumb, I am leaving no matter what happens. I would hate to see such a good game go to waste because a company didn't like that other servers were making money. The credit card crisis is a problem, absolutely, but it's always been around, not exactly a fix.
Increasing the minimum age would effectively get rid of a large portion of the player base. Do note though that Minecraft had always been listed as 13+ and nobody ever listened to that. I agree with the rest of what you said.
This update in my opinion was pretty interesting, it's nice that PE and console players will be able to play together now, however there are a few things that I still don't understand, the servers that they have are pretty limited compared to Java servers and there's not a whole lot of variety, but hopefully in the future they add some more servers. The one thing I'm really looking forward to though is the official shader pack coming out soon, it would look so awesome on my VR headset. c:
All I can hope for is that Mojang will allow server creation to be open to the public and that it won't stay limited to "official partners". I want J&H to have the ability to migrate without selling its soul to Microsoft's legal team.
